The drive along the river takes you to a large parking area next to the lake. We were there to see bears feeding, and although it wasn’t a huge number, there was a mama and two cubs getting their fill. There are a couple of modest parking ares along the river.

Very nice park area and super scenic. Paved all the way to the park area. We had a cloudless day so the views were spectacular.

Bears, Eagles & Salmon - what more do you want? When there in September, I was almost the only one there.

A trip to Alaska would not be complete without visiting this location and watching the Bears, Salmon and numerous Birds that call this home.

What can I say, simply spectacular from the scenery to the wildlife. A must trip 10 minutes from Haines, we saw Grizzlies Bears fishing and a number of Bald Eagles. The park at the end of the road gives you a spectacular view of the lake and mountains.

We biked as well as drove up to this area looking for bears....none to be found. The campground looks so nice. Beautiful views everywhere.

The Chilkoot River is an Alaskan treasure. It's a beautiful by-way, fishing and lake recreation as well.

We rented a pontoon vessel with the intent of letting three members of our party of five doing some fishing. Even though they were not successful the views and beauty of this area was very successful. We witnessed several eagles in trees, waterfalls, ducks, and even a couple of bears along the shoreline.

We could imagine the brown bears lining the weir & grabbing salmon. Unfortunately none present during our visit, but there could have been. Instead, on the way back to our hotel, we were rewarded with a humpback whale breaching, slapping its tail & pectoral fins. So still a good morning out.
