The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) is a nonprofit facility situated on 200 acres an hour south of Anchorage. The Center is dedicated to the preservation of Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, education, and quality animal care. AWCC takes in injured and orphaned animals from the wild in conjunction with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. When possible, the Center will release animals back into the wild, and when necessary, works with similar facilities in the United States and abroad to place these animals in lifetime homes. The Center cares for brown and black bears, moose, caribou, elk, musk ox, lynx, and the herd of 135 endangered wood bison. AWCC is the best way for visitors to get an up close view of Alaska’s wildlife in a natural setting.

Great visit!

Loved the drive around the conservation area. We didn't get to see the Lynx. We also didn't get to see the bears as we went in March. Great for anyone that loves animals!

Easter day trip with family. Drive there was very nice with great weather and spectacular views of the mountains and bay. Once we arrived parked the car and walked to various viewing areas. From our 1st viewing location we saw bison, muskox and a black bear. Next we visited the bear cub who had gotten stuck in a tree and... More

The conservation center is awesome!! Drive, walk, listen to the guides or take your own tour! The work is amazing and is educational for the entire family. The photo ops are amazing and its a great place to pick up a special locally made souvenir.

This was a highlight of my trip and I will have some very fond memories of the local fauna. Seeing bears and wolves was spectacular and also getting to see lynxes was amazing. My guide was also very knowledgeable and provided a commentary that was both detailed and entertaining.

I had so much fun going here on Easter Sunday! We had great luck with weather and animals being out and roaming around. I was worried about it being too busy because I heard they had some activities going on for Easter but once we got there, there were groups of people but nothing too crazy. Finally got to see... Very spacious facility. Even in winter we saw a bear! Plus wolves, Lynx, moose and bison. These guys are doing amazing things to care for animals.

I had the best time here looking at the wildlife, even saying "hello" to a moose whose look said "yeah, whatever human". There is a brown bear who "poses" and then turns his back as you're taking his photo - and seems to be laughing at you while you're doing it. I tried to take his photo at least 10... More

My son and I came here and got some great close up views of moose, reindeer, brown bear, black bear, buffalo, bald eagle and so much more. He absolutely loved the experience and the ability to see the animals so close. You can drive through the are and take advantage of the stopping points to get out of the car... More

This attraction is a worthwhile stop if you have time, it does not take long to drive through or walk to some of main attractions like the Grizzlies. We were there about 30 minutes while waiting on the train to Portage Glacier rafting trip. Also the fee goes to a worthwhile clause.

Great way to see all the Alaskan animals. If you want to see all the great Alaskan animals in a rather natural setting this is the place to go. I especially like the brown bear and the black bear exhibitions.
