Yes! You have to endure a pretty treacherous climb up through the jungle using the roots for handholds but that only made it more of an adventure. When you get to the base of The Needle, you need to use a chain bolted to the...More

The hike to the Needle was absolutely incredible- with stunning views at the top point. Be prepared for a bit of hard work and some mud! The rope climb to the highest point of the Needle itself is challenging and requires a bit of balance,...More

Nice hike , with a bit of a climb up ropes to the needle. Then a long walk down crossing streams back and forward. You end up with a nice waterfall to swim at. We had a hard time finding the start but after that...More

Seeing the Needle is the midpoint of the Cross-island hike which is strenuous but worth it for the views and jungle scenery.

As others have mentioned, be prepared, let people know when you go, and have fun. Slippery, challenging and strenuous workout. This is not a walk in the park for just everyone, it will challenge you and if the trail is soaked be on your toes...More

After looking for things to do in Rarotonga I saw the cross-island trek. Reviews were mixed, but none had stated how HARD it really was. I should have know when the locals tried to discourage me that it was a bad idea. I am a...More

This was a great hike. Took us four hours. The view from the needle is exceptional. Track is well marked although we did bump into a woman who had been lost for two hours. Wear your hiking boots- cross the stream many times. We went...More

A great walk where you cannot get lost, from sea level up thru streams and bush to get a fantastic view. Just watch out for the roosters.

We climbed up the Needle which was quite a good hike. I would recommend good footwear like cross trainers not jandals. There are many roots which stick out and make the climb a little difficult. Great view! Would recommend!!

This hike is a great adventure! We visited in July 2017 and were told it was an 'easy 2 hour hike' . ... ha! Well, we were three 50-something adults (in good shape), and it took us almost 4 hours, I believe. There was mud,...More

They should be fine if they're reasonably fit. I saw plenty of teenagers up there. the walk isn't that far. Just a hassle at times

You could... There are a few places where we used both hands to climb and it was slippery on the way down... Depends a bit if you are doing it alone or with another who could arrest a slip. I probably wouldn't do it alone... More
