When I called to arrange a tour, Dr. Poole harangued me for 10 minutes, before telling me he had no spaces on the day I wanted to go. I learned that he really is not interested in allowing people into the water with the whales....More
If you're in Moorea, spend part of the day with Dr. Poole! My husband and I learned of Dr. Poole's whale-watching tours from one of our travel books and we're so glad we did. We saw spinner dolphins, at least 5 humpback whales, and actually...More
At best I thought we would see dolphins and maybe whales or at worst a have a snorkel on a reef if that didn’t come to pass. A winner either way!
I didn’t for one moment think that if the whales came we would actually...More
The tour is an experience of a lifetime. You are swimming very close to these impressive humpback whales and can observe them from really close. Safety is their number 1 priority, so if you follow the rules, you’ll be ok. You also get lot’s of...More
This was an exceptional tour. Dr. Poole researched much of the information he shares on spinner dolphins. It's really a fantastic opportunity to see wildlife with someone so knowledgeable and friendly. Cannot recommend this enough.
We saw multiple pods of dolphins and one humpback. The...More
This isn’t a regular dolphin watching cruise but rather a lesson in marine zoology but instead of a class in the ocean
First and most impressive is the fact that they do nothing to lure the dolphins or whales but try to track them in...More
We took this half day tour in mid April 2018 as a tour from the Emerald Princess. Dr Poole was charming, informative and engaging the whole time and took trouble to get to know a little about all his guests. This is not the time...More
We booked a Whale and Dolphin encounter "shore" excursion during our cruise ship's visit to Moorea. We were EXTREMELY lucky to randomly find ourselves with Dr Poole's company AND with Dr Poole himself as our naturalist. Don't know how often he does the encounter, but...More
We booked ahead of our trip, but another couple who went from our hotel (Sofitel) booked through concierge and we all paid the same price. We were told ahead of time to bring water, sunscreen, and snorkel equipment. We didn't end up getting in the...More

Neither The Wife nor I am prone to sea-sickness, so take my answer as "ignorant." (We ocean cruise lots w/out problems.) The vessel is small (20 or 30 folks) and it never leaves sight of shore. Thus, you get occasional "rocking" when you cross someone's wake, but in general the trip is calm. We "speed up" to move to another area, but sit still and observe without scaring the animals.
