The valley is towered on both sides by tall mountains covered in millions shades of green, there are numerous waterfalls cascading after each turn. There are several places where one can stop for a cool and refreshing dip. The road is bumpy and full of...More

It was at the Hertz at the airport and it was a DAHIATSU small suv 4x4. When I checked at the time the other rental car companies did not have a 4x4 at the airport at least.

We had a great jeep tour of the valley. The driver stopped often to describe the flora and fauna, the geology, the history and the culture of the island. Be sure to bring water, insect repellant and wear your swim suit. You will probably want...More

Forget the tours. Buy your pass where necessary and explore, this valley is exquisite. Waterfalls, streams, rainforest and wildlife so alive it is unbelievable. You will need a 4WD or large hire car. One of my favourite experiences in Tahiti.

There is nothing uninspiring about being inside a volcano's crater - even if it hasn't had a blow out in over a million years. Looking up at the cliffs of lava one can easily imagine what it must have bee like while the volcano was...More
