Look at the photos. It's a fab early 20th century building and you are sure to see it as you walk, bus or taxi by. Admire both the building and the spectacularly insensitive skyscraper planting which overshadows ot.

Constructed five years after Titanic’s voyage to the bottom of the sea, this grand building was constructed in 1917. The full name is Edificio de Correos y Telégrafos de Costa Rica, and I imagine in the day telegraph devices clicked away sending and receiving news reports about the world war encompassing Europe, and drawing America into its grips after the Lusitania was sunk by a German submarine, in 1915. Designed by architect Luis Llach in neo-Renaissance style with French influence, the façade has a distinctive green hue and Corinthian pilasters and columns. Cherubs adorn the central arch and guard Costa Rica’s national coat of arms. A statue of President Juan Rafael Mora Porras stands at the entrance. The building now serves as a telegraph and mail museum, well worth a visit for architecture lovers.

This beautiful architecture is a great spot to stop and experience the true essence of San Jose. Correos de Costa Rica or the National post office is the main hub where all international mails arrive in the county. It's a beautiful Spanish structure. There is a little plaza just across where you can simply sit and watch the ambiance as Ticos swiftly move by, others predicting or someone entertaining. It's worth stopping.

I came here to send a few notes back home and was impressed by the exterior, which I spent some time sketching. It's also something of a gathering place out front. The post office is very orderly and the staff will set you right politely if you don't queue properly (!), which is kind of cute.

Interesting historical building in constant use for 100 + years. Still has many of the old original post office boxes with old Costa Rica emblem.

When you are walking around downtown San Jose stop in and mail a post card. This is a grand old post office building and makes an interesting sightseeing stop.

I really like the post office building. San Jose might not be London or New York with a lot of sightseeing to do but it has indeed some pretty architecture. If you are interested in architecture, you should have a proper look at this building.

The most noticeable attribute of this public landmark is its structual designs. Simply beautiful and very artistic.

I have used the Costa Rican postal service for many years, and have never to the best of my knowledge lost anything. The local post mistress greets me by name when I come for mail. My personal PO Box cost several dollars this year, a mega increase over previous years. I receive books regularly, and other small packages without the bother of going to the customs bureau. Letters to and from Canada and the US take from seven to ten days. I no longer feel that I need a Miami address. Your situation might be different.
