About
The interior of this 1871 church is far more interesting than the neoclassic exterior.

    Beautiful Church
While in San Jose, my husband and I stopped here. It's open to the public for free; however, donation boxes are around if you choose to donate. It's a clean, beautiful church. My husband was disappointed to find out that the pipe organ is not in use.

Quite a common sight, but remarkable monument for San José
Don´t expect a cathedral like in Mexico or even Guatemala, with rich decorations and baroque surprises. It´s nothing special, but still, one of the most remarkable monuments in the center of San José. Closeby you´ll find a statue of Anne Frank, quite a surprise.

    A beautiful and quiet cathedral
This particular cathedral is smaller than some, but larger than others. I would like to say that it’s very nice. It was very peaceful and quiet. It’s located downtown San Jose so it’s easy to find. If your like me and you love going to cathedrals in all of the different countries, I would definitely recommend you stop by and see this one. It’s worth the time.

To take advantage of the sunny Sunday morning ( rain was predicted around noon), I tried to visit as many attractions located along Avenida 2 on my second day in San Jose.

The mass was going on at this church when I arrived, noting the simplicity of this church. I just finished visiting the Iglesia de la Soledad where both the outside facades and insides are beautiful. There are lots of beautiful while flowers along its aisle. These are not present at this church. I said my prayers and discretely left.

This is a nice church and worth a visit if you are in the downtown area, however I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. It isn't as nice or as distinctive as several other cathedrals and basilicas that we have visited elsewhere. The celing is nice so make sure you look up.

It's big compared to the other churches in the country, but cannot stand next to the cathedrals in Europe, Perú or Ecuador. Relatively modern, its elegant but cold. Don't pay for a tour, just enter after mass for free.

We stopped to see this church while we were walking around San Jose during a recent stay there. It was very nice but less elaborately decorated than some other churches in South American and Spain. In some ways, this made the place have a calm and pleasant feel. It is worth stopping in here if you are in the area. Entry is free.

Beautiful stained glass windows. Entrance is on side if building. Statue of Anne Frank sling sidewalk on that side. 10-15 minutes is good. Along Central Avenue a few blocks from all major sites

This huge Church can be found in the centre of San Jose near Central Park. The Church is very large and can't be missed, the exterior is grand and the interior is stunning. The stained-glass windows and statues are intricately designed and the main alter is incredible. The ceiling markings evoke such a sense of awe.

My wife and I love to visit churches whenever we travel and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this Cathedral. We were in San Jose prior to beginning a Collette tour for 7 days. I found they hold an English mass on Saturday at 4 pm so we made arrangements to be there. (We're not Catholic but love the experience.) The service was short but meaningful. After the group had mostly departed I carried on my tradition of singing a hymn with my bride as the acoustics are usually outstanding. During the chorus of "In the Garden," the priest steps up and joins with us to finish the song. "Such a beautiful hymn," he said. Certainly a memorable experience.
