This modern, well designed museum has a very comprehensive exhibit of Costa Rican history, archaeology, and natural history. We easily spent two hours and learned more than our guidebooks told us. The gold designs were interesting and they have a good gift shop.

I was very interested in seeing this exhibition. In fact, I expected it to be one of the highlights of my trip, but the museum was a disappointment. There were lots of music-related artifacts, but only a handful of actual pre-Columbian gold objects. The building...More

This was a "maybe" visit during our trip planning, as the gold part didn't sound all that interesting. But we went, and we spent a lot of time here, as the exhibits were all fascinating. Make sure this one is on your list in San...More

The museum is really good about the history of money in Costa Rica, including gold and coffee. This is a good stop if you are parking downtown and walking around. Very nice presentation.

This is a fantastic museum. there are lots of gold objects, but even if they were not gold ones, they have the value of representing ancient civilizations. If you like, you can also buy replicas, gold or gold plated, earring, rings and more. Do not...More

The museum also houses the numismatic museum. Interesting artifacts and historical significance highlighted. Beautiful facility, if a little muggy in some areas.

This Museum is owned by a big bank and is sited underground. The entrance is through a huge Safe door and I made the mistake of taking a pic of it! The moment we entered I was challenged by a security man who insisted I...More

Very interesting and does a good job showcasing the exhibits and telling about the history involved. Centrally located and many shops and restaurants and other Museums within walking distance. National Theatre is close by too.

About $6 per person - don't know the children's entry fee. There is a lot of "eye-candy" to catch a young child's attention. Gold really shines! Also, many of the sculptures and carved pieces are uniquely shaped and... More

I was there in August and as a tourist and not a Costa Rican the charge was $11 USD. Not sure if price went up or if the $ is better but there was no discount for tourists.
