Great time with my son

It was very cheap and full of Costa Rica history as well as authenticity. We had a great father and son time.

The building is nice and the butterfly garden to start the visit is a great idea. However, the rest of the museum is very disappointing: entrance is not cheap (8$/ pers, almost no explanations, poor historical content, absolutely no coherence between the rooms and overall it's quite small museum. The pre-columbine remains ok but there is pretty much nothing on... More

I really enjoyed this beautiful museum. It has a wonderful history, about half of the exhibits signage is in English so bring an iPhone/pad to interprete other signs of interest. I loved the butterfly garden as you enter. I could have sat there for hours.

Fantastic museum and building! This is where you find the history of Costa Rica, a lot of the culture including Pre-Columbian, and a fascinating building!

I have taken my grandchildren, who love this place. It is full of scientific experiments, Costa Rican history on main export products from the past, like coffee and bananas. It has a little farm wit real animals, a train, plane and chopper. It has a dinosaur part with great dinosaurs that makes noises and move and the children love it.... More

While San Jose does not have a true museum district, the downtown is small enough that most of the museums are close together so see more than one. The fortress was built in 1917 and was originally a military barracks. On the the exterior walls you can see bullets and bullet holes from 1948 civil war. We entered from the... More

You start out in the beautiful butterfly Pavillion and move on to the art and artifacts. It's a little tricky getting around to all the displays, but worth it. I had no idea such a large amount of stones, ritual artifacts and gold objects were saved. Someone saw the need to preserve and study them, not just sell them. I'm... More

Fun activity in San Jose. Historic building, with lots of variety- butterfly garden, pre-columbian artifacts, history of early 20th century San Jose. Very enjoyable!
