One of the biggest collections of art pieces of Costa Rica, many stored but a lot others in the walls and hallways of this emblematic building: the first International Airport of Costa Rica. In the middle of the green Sabana Metropolitan Park, you will find...More

This used to be the airport, which is pretty cool. The art is nice and nicely displayed. There is a wide variety, but it is not overwhelming.

This government-sponsored institution highlights works of Costa Rican art from many different styles and genres. Do not miss the mural of Costa Rican history upstairs in what used to be the VIP lounge when this was San Jose's airport terminal. The pleasant sculpture garden outside...More

I did enjoy the 1 1/2 hour visit to this art facility. It is actually the renovated metro airport and is a beautiful building and grounds. If you have a little time to kill in San Jose, this is an excellent choice. I would have...More

While we werent terribly impressed with the revolving art exhibit on display, the building itself is amazing. Originally built in the 1930's as the airport terminal, it closed for air service in 1955 and the building and airfield became Sabana Park. That said, its hard...More

In what was the original main terminal of San José’s first international airport, this museum houses an impressive collection of works by Costa Rican artists. Though a rather small museum, the permanent collection has more than 6,000 pieces, including works by Juan Manuel Sánchez, Max...More

Yes it used to be the old airport. The art was very interesting as well as the signs placed around telling you about the old airport and things that were left. The communications tower is still in tact and you can also walk out the...More

We really liked this small gallery. Modern costa rican paintings and sculptures. Lockers for backpacks near the entrance. Definitely go upstairs to the diplomats room. Beautiful - I won't spoil the surprise. We loved this section the most.

A visit to Sabana park would not be complete without a stop at this museum. Small as museums go, but has a nice selection of art and Costa Rica history.A nice hour or two spent while nearby, and recommended to check it out.

It's for free. Do not expect a large museum, though, in case you are used to the large European museums. It's basically composed of a large main hall at the entrance, two small rooms at the North side, about a Southern room... More
