Multiple tours from the Jaco beach area will take you across to Turtle Island (isla tortuga) where you can spend the day snorkeling, swimming, riding the banana boats, jey skiing, lounging in the sun, or take a hike up and around the island (for a fee). It's about a 45 min+ boat ride across to the destination, bring your towels,... More

Came here on a half day tour. Loved the snorkeling, the local island pig, and the sun. Apparently you have to pay to do the activities on the island but I sat on the beach and read my book. Excellent!

Great white sand experience - just a little crowded when the big tour boats arrive. Lots of cool stuff to do on the island, including jet skiing (rentals for $60 per hour), kayaking, banana boat rides, SUP, snorkeling and - of course - chilling on beach chairs. The scenery is pretty gorgeous and lots of private boats from Jaco and... More

Hi we are glad that you liked Tortuga Island and it's beautiful white sand beaches. Those first days of the year are the busiest days of the year, but still it is worth visiting. Thanks for your comments. Mario C. More

This is a definite must-do while in Costa Rica. The beach is beautiful, with comfortable lounge chairs you can rent to enjoy the beach all day. Beautiful clean water, and you can see fish as you walk into the shallow water from yhe beach.

The ride out on the boat is so beautiful and the beach is nice and warm and clean. It can get a bit crowded, but we went as part of a great Calypso Tour and they had a nice shaded spot.

I went on a day trip from San Jose with Bayislandcruises. Everything was very professional and everything on time. The coach was supposed to arrive at 6.15am and it came exactly that. The guide said we will arrive back at hotel at 8-8:30pm and we did that. The bus was very clean. The tour guide very helpful and friendly and... More

So pretty and well worth the trip out! Keep in mind it is very hot and very sunny so rent one of the lounge chairs with an umbrella. There is a gift shop and activities, which we had included in our cruise. A beautiful island to spend the day!

Our boat tour operator was very attentive to safety and cleanliness. We had a cruise director who gave clear instructions and he had a staff that was on top of making sure that your every desire was satisfied (we were the only non-Spanish speaking couple aboard on this day). They served appetizers, breakfast, free non-alcoholic drinks, hot lunch on the... More

If you are a beach lover you just don't want to miss this one. You can only access isla tortuga if a tour company takes you there. So yes, you need to buy a tour. Mostly people get a snorkeling tour from manzanillo or San Jose.
