    Excellent eperience
A friend recommended a guided tour, and that was great advice. Our guide was excellent and pointed out flora and fauna we would not have otherwise seen, to say nothing of general information about the cloud forest. We could also take pictures through his bird scope. Highly recommend. Getting to Monteverde was painful due to lousy roads, but not unusual off the highways. Fortunately the tour included a hotel pickup or we may not have ever found the place.

    Nature-packed
We bought tickets online including parking, you park in a guarded lot and then get on a shuttle bus up to the reserve, about ten mins. Shops, eateries and toilets at the entrance. Very busy, one of the most popular National Parks in the country. Take a photo of the trail map on your phone before you start. Several trails to follow, varying in difficulty. We went on Nubosa A & B (self-guided) to get up to the viewpoint at the continental divide, what incredible views! There's definitely something to be said for walking in the clouds and feeling their moisture on your face! Take a hat and a sweater it gets chilly at the top and not much shelter up there. Guided tours are available. We saw a ton of different birds and a coati on the way back down. Lots of lovely flora. Very highly recommend.

    A highlight of Costa Rica!
Yes, we saw playful white-face capuchin, a group of catamundi going about their business, a well camouflaged parrot, the tiniest avocado ever, strangler trees whose victims had passed, unbelievably gorgeous hummingbirds in the colors of the rainbow, and the often elusive and spectacular quetzals. The walk through Monteverde exceeded our highest hopes--but only because of Elverto, our guide. He was engaging, extremely knowledgeable, and absolutely excellent at what he did. This amazing experience is a highlight of our Costa Rica adventure!

Great day, excellent guide, saw 4 quetzals
We had an excellent tour by Deiner our guide. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and had a great key for spotting birds. We saw 4 quetzals which we learned is very rare! The park was beautiful but if we didn’t have a guide, we would have missed the background on the evolution of the cloud forest, we would have missed seeing the quetzels and all of the other wildlife he pointed out. He is part of the reason our time at the park was memorable. We also had a nice meal at the Park’s restaurant.

Cloud forest on clear day 👍🏼
Cloud forest was a vary nice easy hike though the this Costa Rican forest. We had a good guild told us a lot about the different species of plants and animals. Lots of bird spotting and watching, other then that we see a couple of monkeys when at the entrance, we also saw a tarantula in it burrow, vary nice. I would recommend this place for bird watching.

    Wonderful walks
The Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve was absolutely beautiful. The greenery and all of the plants and trees seemed to go on forever and you could spend forever wandering around spotting all of the different plants, flowers and wildlife. Our guide, Maikol, was fantastic at pointing out such a wide variety of animals and birds with his spotting scope. The hanging bridges within the reserve were also great for different height perspectives and to really appreciate just how big the reserve is. The hummingbird bit is also not to be missed. We went in the afternoon, and following our walk ended up stopping to see the hummingbirds for a while at around 5pm and we had the whole place to ourselves. There are lots of feeders out for the birds and we saw lots of different varieties, all equally stunning and beautiful. Definitely worth a visit when in the area, and I'd happily come back and wander the other trails for hours on end!

    Amazing experience
Wow!! The views here were breathtaking and we had the absolute best time! My husband and I are pretty quick walkers and were able to get through all of the trails in the 5(ish) hours we spent here. If you are someone who is easily motion sick then the drive up will be very difficult. The roads are windy and very bumpy and it's a long drive. We drove from La Fortuna and left around 6 am. The drive took a few hours and wasn't an easy one. Once we got there, we paid to park at the lot and got the shuttle to the park. This was easy and kept our things safe in the car. It was one of our favorite things we did in our week in Costa Rica and are already discussing another trip to return to the cloud forrest. Some of the walks were pretty steep, but the views were gorgeous. It was nice to get there earlier in the morning because it wasn't as crowded as when the tours come in. Lots of people were dressed in pants and long sleeves, which was nice first thing. However, it did warm up. I wore shorts and a tank top (athletic clothes) and brought a flannel around my waist. I was glad I had it because at times it was chilly, but at our pace I didn't need it much after 10/11 am. If you can handle the drive and can make it up early it will be better. This is a MUST on your trip!

    Bird paradise
This privately owned national park has different signed trails which you can discover on your own or with a guide. The official car parking is a few kilometers before the actual park entrance. Although there is a shuttle bus, a better option - if you are early enough - might be to park your car on the street. We where there around 7:30 am and we could park on a safe (the street is rather small) spot approx. 100m before the entrance gate. As many others, we decided to explore (a small part of) the park with a guide. Each guide was responsible for only a small group but the guides were helping each other out in spotting the animals. They all had their telescope or spotting scope with them which helped to spot the shy birds like the beautiful Quetzal (which we saw 3 times), the bellbird (1 female spotted) and the toucanet (1x). Through the spotting scope we were not only able to see these birds from close by but we could also make some pictures with the cell phone (the birds were often too far away to capture them even with a 300mm lens). We were very lucky with our guide as he was very knowledgeable and gave a lot of good information and background stories on the animals, epiphytes and other jungle wonders. After this bird spotting, we did the hike (or walk as it was rather easy) to the cascade / waterfall. On the way we spotted some more animals (pit viper, peccaries) and we passed some beautiful old trees, with the big strangler fig on the middle of the path being the highlight. The cascade itself is not so spectacular and only visible from rather far away. After the 2h guided walk, the guide brought us to the colibri café and gave us some information on the different hummingbirds. Interesting and beautiful, but I would have preferred to have a bit more time with the guide in the cloud forest itself. Your ticket is valid for the whole day though so you can always go back on your own. At the entrance and next to the colibri café are two souvenir shops (good choice but rather over priced).

Excellent for an easy going hike in the woods
Great easy going morning hike. No animals at sight but the vegetation was vast. We took the Nuboso A trail to the Nuboso B trail (a bit steep) and passed a nice bridge at Caminal trail.

    Magical
Wonderful experience wandering the trails at our leisure. Guided tours are available but we chose not to. The routes are easy to follow, and the forest is beautiful! The variety of plant life is mind blowing, we also saw various butterfly and bird species and a monkey and her (very small!!) baby!

A variety of trails from easy to moderate+. We took the night tour and a Day tour through the preserve's guides. We would not have seen nearly as much as we did if we were on our own. The hummingbird gallery was also a lot of fun.

I booked the day pass online and joined a guided tour at 7:30 am. Saw lots of humming birds, the beautiful quetzal, and several other birds. Once I finished the guided tour, I covered some other trails myself. The sight of clouds descending into the forest is dream like and mesmerizing.

Our tour and tour guide was excellent. We did find the experience to be a bit overpriced, but still recommend the tour. A WORD TO THE WISE about parking and access. We purchased tour guide tickets before via Trip Advisor, knowing we had to purchased entrance tickets day of. We arrived early and parked in a paid parking lot about a mile away from the entrance. A shuttle bus picks you up and takes you to the entrance. However, when we arrived the ticketing lines were long and confusing b/c those of us who purchased guide tickets before, had to wait in a long line to buy entrance tickets. Those who didn't purchase in advance, went to a shorter line and bought both guide/entrance tickets (in other words, you are punished by being proactive). As a result, we were late and held up our group a few mins b/c we were stuck in the line. Even the guide agreed that the process is flawed. Still, the tour was really educational and we'd suggest doing it. Lots of wildlife and the guide was very educational. For Quetzal lovers, the reserve prioritizes their survival, and we saw a female.

Absolutely gorgeous, loved walking the trails. Well maintained, saw lots of wildlife, must see and do while in monteverde. Very well maintained. We did the self guided walk. Limit people on trails at a time which is nice so it doesn't get too crowded. Walking trails are easy, and the views are gorgeous.

Early morning walk in the cloud forest. Unfortunately we did not see very much in the way of wildlife so it just became a walk in the forest. The hummingbird alley was interesting.

Had a private guide and spent 3-4 hours walking the reserve, always on the lookout for mainly birds, and the elusive resplendent quetzal. Our guide was very patient, spotted some really cool birds incl. hummingbird nests, lessons motmot to name a few. And, we came across 3 different spots to see the quetzal! Park wasn't too crowded, this is a temperate rainforest at higher elevation so very pleasant and not too hot. Even just walking here without the animals has a very calming effect, thoroughly enjoyable so definitely go!

This is a very busy place, plan your trip in advance! If you are driving yourself there, parking can be challenging, consider booking through you hotel to ensure you can get into the park. We arrived at the lower parking lot, and were told that they weren't allowing anymore people to enter the park right now. We ended up driving up to the park entrance and were put on a waitlist for approx. 30min. Luckily found parking up there on the side of the road. We did not do a guided tour, so probably didn't see as much wildlife as we may have. The trails we chose took us to the hanging bridge, and were fairly easy walking, definitely some up inclines, some of had to take breaks:). It was a nice hike, although it wasn't quite as awe-inspiring as I hoped. It was a cloudy day, so vistas were limited. Visit the little cafe and hummingbird viewing area outside the park, worth a look! Check it off the bucket list!

Our first time in Costa Rica and we were nothing but excited about coming to Monte Verde Inn exploring the cloud Forest. Before you come a few things you need to know. The roads that bring you up to the club forest are an extremely poor condition. It took nearly 2 1/2 hours for only a few kilometers. Also the road is extremely windy which is dangerous. Next it is very unorganized once you get to the club for us to pay your entrance fee you have to put yourself on a wait list, they only allow so many people at the park at a time and those people are leaving you are allowed in. Entrance fee was $26. Later after they directed us to the road we were supposed to take which was really only forest did not see many animals, The bridge is safe not nearly as long as I imagined it to be. Nothing spectacular. once you get to the end of the road there’s a viewpoint called La ventana. Decide it was beautiful and you are able to view the entire valley a pie it was for saying that. Once we return back we spoke with other people and they indicated that there are other trails that you could explore to see many other things such as water falls etc. Unfortunately we were only directed to one side so we did not know. I’m not sure this was worth it thank you
