Lovely hike through the cloud forest leading down to the base of a waterfall. Hike is moderately strenuous and slippery in some places. Benches are provided along the way.

We arrived late in the day and were worried we wouldn't have enough time. The descent in and the "swim" at the falls were short compared to the hike out. My nephew counted something like 440 steps. The last 100 were just a little tough...More

We visited on December 5. A really nice waterfall. The walk was pleasant and didn't seem too stressful. A few hills and valleys. Highly recommended if in the area

Be careful because it was a bit slippery, but it was the rainy season. Worth the hike and you get to see some gorgeous birds while out there as well.

Great waterfall, but not an easy hike if you're not in the best shape!! Going down was easy, but the hike back up is no joke.

I am understanding from those that live in the area that these falls have been closed due to a death on the trail. A biologist pushed her students out of the way of falling boulder and was hit.

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
Which is the best way to access the trail and waterfall for a short (2-3 hour) hike? I've read variously that one can hike 3 hours one-way from the Cloud Forest Biological Reserve, or 45 minutes from the U. of Georgia campus, or from a private family farm up a canyon from below. We're thinking about including the fall on our visit to the area in a few weeks, and the timing of a 45 minute-1 hour hike each way from the U. of Georgia campus sounds good. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot, Les and Riki

Sorry, the waterfall is closed because it is dangerous. Two people have died already don't push it!

The Place has been closed due to previous tragic accidents. You may see the waterfall from two different places in Monteverde, on the main steep road to San Luis that is a bit risky and from the Observation Deck at Ficus... More
