- Jud C1 contributionInformative and entertaining tour on a beautiful property near San JoseThe tour takes place in a beautiful property near San Jose and it was a perfect mix of information and entertainment. Tina and Thuz, our tour guides, were knowledgeable, friendly, and funny, and they encouraged group participation as we learned a lot about coffee – its history, how it is grown, and how it is roasted and prepared for shipment (including a look into the actual roasting factory). The property includes not only coffee trees, but also a beautiful butterfly garden. The lunch, included in our tour, was a great way to finish off our experience. And of course we bought some coffee in their shop which they will ship back to the US free of charge.Hi judc2016! Thank you for visiting our coffee plantation and for your kind comments. This is a MUST DO and well-suited for all ages. We arrived a bit early and enjoyed a nice lunch at their on-site cafe. Very tasty and diverse menu. The factory store has a lot to offer beyond coffee, as well. AND, there's a butterfly farm onsite, too! Simply fantastic.Hello A2535HGjenniferc Thank you so much for the review. Reasonable prices - family of four was $104. Gift shop was also reasonably priced with discounts the more you buy. One of the better tours in Costa Rica where you don’t feel you are taken advantage of. The tour guides offered a great deal of information and answered a lot of questions . Britt is not far from San Jose so not as windy as other tours .Hi! Thank you for visiting our coffee plantation and for your kind comments. Since it's outdoors, make sure to wear bug spray and sunscreen. Our guide, Luis, was funny and informative, even tossing chocolate pieces for correct answers! The tour ends at the souvenir shop, where the deals are better than Duty Free. We didn't do lunch or any extra additions, but it was a great experience overall.Hello! I wish the tour guides spoke English as much as Spanish. I found others laughing when the guide spoke Spanish but then no English interpretation given. I did the lunch tour, save your money. Even the pico gallo rice was hard and undercooked, not good for a Costa Rican staple. The butterfly garden was nice. Lots of tasting opportunities so be careful of over doing the caffeine. The gift shop was nice and had better prices on their special regional coffee blends. Their regular blends can be purchased in San Jose markets for less.

I had very high expectations from this tour due to all the positive reviews I read. It was very good, but short of excellent. We signed up last
minute and they had space for us (online the website said it was booked, but when I emailed they said they had room in the tour). The tour group was a fairly large size, 24 people that were both Spanish and English speaking. The tour guide was good but he first explained everything in Spanish and then English which made the tour feel longer than it was. They could have easily split the group in 2 and done one in English and one in Spanish. It felt rushed because he was getting through the information fast but long as we had to wait for him to do his Spanish bit first. The kids were getting impatient towards the end. I thought we would have gotten to see some of the process live, since we were in the coffee bean harvest season (I read with some of the smaller coffee farms you can see the bean being harvested). Overall a decent tour, but if I could have done it again I would have chosen some of the smaller farms to get a more intimate feel.
We ate at the cafe after the tour and the food was pretty good.

Lovely people, very welcoming and accommodating. I was worried about my luggage in the car as I was between destinations. Roberto answered my query very promptly and it was no problem as the area is guarded with a check-post.
The grounds are not huge but very lush and green. There is a lawn, petting zoo and a butterfly garden.
The tour was led by a very knowledgeable and humorous Maria. I certainly know more now about coffee and how to taste it.
To finish off I had a (generous portions) salad which was very fresh and extremely reasonably priced. The menu is varied and suits everyone.
Overall a good three hours well spent. Would recommend.

The coffee tour was fun, entertaining, casual, friendly, and informative. Our tour guide Luis did a great job switching between English and Spanish and keeping us laughing. The grounds are beautiful and lunch was delicious. Would definitely recommend spending a couple hours learning more about coffee if you're in the area. Staff were all very friendly and booking was easy and quick. We booked online the night before for our tour with no problems.

We showed up in the rain on a Monday and happened to be the only 2 on the tour. The check in desk provided us with a large umbrella to start. We met with Louis and right away he was very engaging, funny and informative. From start to finish it was a unbelievable experience. The coffee was phenomenal, but our guide really made this tour worthwhile!

What a fantastic tour! This is perfect for coffee lovers that are interested in knowing how coffee is grown in Costa Rica. Our guide, María, was fully engaging and knowledgeable. She toured us through the grounds and expertly taught us so much in an interactive way. We learned about the history of coffee, tasted various coffees from the region, picked beans, and even learned how to detect different flavors in the coffee like a true connoisseur! She is full of energy, and it felt like a VIP tour. Our second tour guide, Pedro López, picked us up in his van and took us to a different location for the waterfall tour. It began to rain pretty hard once we arrived, so we decided to just tour the grounds without making the trek down to see the waterfall. Pedro pivoted quickly and showed us the animals in the animal sanctuary. He also educated us on the fauna native to Costa Rica. With a smile on his face and "Pura Vida" personality, Pedro helped us make the most of this tour. It was definitely worth it.

I am planning my husbands first trip out of the country and can’t wait to show him Costa Rica! We are coming during the rainy season and I know it mostly rains in the afternoons. How much does this affect the tour?
Written 12 November 2023
During the rainy season it pours down for a while and then it clears. So the rain shouldn't interfere with the tour, unless there is a "temporal", a few days of constant light rain. This doesn't happen often and wearing a poncho would still allow participation in a tour.
