We took a white water rafting trip with Pozo Azul Adventures on Class II/II rapids - rough enough to be quite a thrilling ride.  You don't just get a bit wet on this ride, you get completely soaked.  This was only my second time white water rafting and I was quite glad it wasn't my first attempt.   The trip was great fun and health and safety was taken very seriously.  It felt exciting - and thrilling - but not really dangerous.

Checkout my travel blog (no ads. - just an honest view from someone who has actually been there!) for our full itinerary and practical insider tips. View my trip report for my top ten "must dos" for a luxury trip to Costa Rica - this is definitely one of them!

Carlos was our guide, he was such a positive person and we had a blast. He was a wonderful teacher. It was a beautiful day, the river was gorgeous and clear. Highly recommended, go with Carlos

We took a boat tour of the Sarapiqui river to Black Wood farm and my parents really enjoyed it! The perfect travel experience for anyone who can't hike through the rainforest.

This was a last stop on a day long tour. The river was gentle and a bit shallow when I visited in March. We saw lots of animal life including howler monkeys, bats, lizards, caimans and of course many species of waterfowl including ibis, herons, kingfishers and cormorants. There was also a scattering of dwellings near the riverbanks with children swimming in the water. The only distressing thing was that from time to time you could see plastic debris in the bushes and shorelines. This obviously came from nearby banana plantations that use blue plastic to cover the banana stalks to keep them protected from insects.

If you can take the long drive from San Jose to see animals in there naturally surrounding then this is for you. The one thing you will need is luck because of the change you weather conditions. So check the forecast and plan ahead.

We did this tour as a full day tour. It is a long drive from San Jose. However, we had a fantastic time. We booked through Viator. Our tour guide was Mauricio and our boat driver was Pedro. We had a great time and they both went out of their way to make sure we saw all the nature and wildlife. We saw a sloth actually moving with her baby in a tree. crocodiles, bats, horses, and monkeys.
The highlight of our cruise was truly once in a lifetime and I credit both our guide and boat driver. We saw a baby monkey on a branch in the river. We watched and he fell in. We thought he'd be able to swim to shore but as we sailed away, thought, no, we better go back and check on him. Well, he wouldn't have made it. Our boat driver gently nudged the boat to him and our guide picked him up by his tail out of the water. He looked so scared. Our driver sailed to the island where the howler monkeys were and our guide went and gently put him on the trunk of the tree. As we sailed away, we saw Mama monkey come and get the poor baby.
This is a must do. We had a great time and also this tour includes lunch. Well worth the long drive.

I went white water rafting here with a huge group of teenagers through an organization called Rustic Pathways. Best experience ever. My guide Jodi was amazing and made the experience. Even though white water rafting can be scary my guide was great at making us comfy with it and it a great time. Best experience I have had white water rafting. It's a great place for people to go if it is their first time going white water rafting too. Thank you Jodi for making this such an incredible experience!!!!

Went river rafting with aventuras de sarapiqui. Not too hard, but loads of fun. Good for all ages and abilities. Our guide, Davis, kept us smiling. They served a snack of watermelon and pineapple.

We had so much fun on our river rafting trip with Aventuras del Sarapiqui! The section of river we were on is rated as Class 2-3 as far as rapids go; not scary, but exciting! Beautiful tropical scenery all around with opportunities to see colorful birds, monkeys, and sloths too!

We did a rafting tour from Aventuras del Sarapiqui. We had fun, it was not to difficult for not to young children, or a little older people, like we are (around 60 years of age).
