    Great fun for teens!
My 13 and 14 year old boys LOVED this cave tour!! I feel like this is a hidden gem in the La Fortuna area. Many people don't seem to put this on their itinerary, but it was so, so cool and fun. A real highlight of our trip. We've been to caves all around the U.S., but this immersive and interactive experience is unlike any others we've done. Climbing and traipsing through the water, being taken into "hidden passageways", only the light of a headlamp.... just incredible fun. It's a nice change of pace too from the standard rainforest walks/ hikes in the area. My 72 year old parents did this as well, and the guide was amazing with them. He was patient and helped my mom safely navigate the caves. (My parents did bypass some of the more challenging sections and waited for us, but the guide was great with personalizing the tour to the different levels in our group.) Highly recommend for adventurous kids, pre-teens or teens!!

Wettest but most fun spelunking experience!
I've been spelunking in various spots in California, some with water, some with very tight squeezes, but this was the first that combined both! Our family with two teenagers had a great time! There are various passages that allow you to crawl on all fours through narrow tunnels filled with water. Some of these are optional, but we did them all. It was quite a workout and wearing non-cotton shorts/T-shirt is recommended. If you have some water shoes, those are likely to be more comfortable than the yellow rain boots they provide. There is no light other than those on your helmets, but that made it exciting and was still able to get great photos with my waterproof camera (if you bring a cellphone, it better be in a plastic bag). The spiders and bats don't bother you. Finishing up with a soapy shower (to make sure you don't have any bat guano) followed up with fruit/snacks and drinks was a fantastic conclusion.

    Venado Caves - A Must!
Venado Caves really impressed all in our family, from an excited teenager to a reluctant one. It is not a simple walk through a cave. It is exciting to see different formations and squeeze through areas to move through the accessible cave system. Elvis was our guide and he was fantastic, told us about the cave and its bats, spiders and crickets (none of which bother you). He led a calm atmosphere to encourage our reluctant teenager to try more than she originally thought she would. Definitely visit if you are in the area!!

    Exceeds expectations!
The cave was awesome! So fun walking through water, climbing rocks. Seeing scorpion spiders (harmless to us), bats, cricut, millipede, tarantula and howler monkeys on our way out. Our guide, Jose (driver Omar with Jacamar), was amazing with interesting facts and history about the cave and helping us with any tricky footing. My 10 yr old was hesitant by said it was the best day ever about half way through the cave.

When looking for a fun adventure in Costa Rica, this is a must-do. The cave is beautiful and very cool to spelunk though. The tight passages were surprisingly not claustrophic, as they were fairly short and our guide, Mauricio, would guide us through in very understandable English. In fact, he would often offer a wider passage if we were not comfortable with the more narrow. Beautiful formations. We were able to take our time and enjoy the cave and it's beauty. Wear water shoes, but though one gets wet, it is not muddy.
My husband is scared to death of spiders, but he was having so much fun that Mauricio convinced him to hold a very sweet cave spider. The cost was extremely reasonable and for only $10/person,, Mauricio snapped over 80 professional pictures for us.
This tour would be great for our grandchildren (ages 7 - 12) up to us (ages 61 and 63). Thank you, Mauricio. We will be back next year to do it again. Pura Vida!

I will start by saying that only 3/9 people finished the whole tour. And yes we’ve been in caves before. It could be beautiful, but if you don’t like dark, narrow places, don’t do it. We were walking in the water the whole time, we had to climb a slippery rock, watch our heads and try not to fall down , all at the same time. We saw some bats but nothing impressive there, except for a little waterfall.
It was much harder than we thought.

If you try to book this cave, either do it through a tour guide or contact them through WhatsApp. (Number is on their website). I tried to use their Contact Us function on the site and it didn't work. There are two email addresses listed on the site; I emailed them both with no response. I sent a WhatsApp message and had the tour booked in 30 minutes.

We met Alfonso today at the caves and I dressed as i had for previous cave explorations. His words to me were.."You're gonna get wet." So all electronics went back into the car, along with our backpack. But once we were in the cave, it was amazing. And Alfonso was right... we got wet. We walked through the river, crawled though the river at a few points, climbed over rocks.. it was awesome. It's an amazing experience to see the way the water has carved the caverns over time as well as the different wildlife that lives in the caves. At no point did I ever feel unsafe or overwhelmed. It was a great experience from start to finish.

I previously made a reservation via WhatsApp and arrived at 8:00. I was the only person and the cost was $28 or 17,000. I had the option to pay $20 or 12,000 for photos and decided to do it as I knew the pictures would be great even if I was spending a lot for just over an hour. However besides the cost- the adventure was great and the photos too. I wore my bathing suit and tivas and think it was the best choice. You will see the spiders and tarantulas and bats.

This was probably our favorite activity in Costa Rica. The tour is a true adventure and will test your ability to squeeze and crawl around dark and wet places. But, Henry, our guide knew the ins and outs so well that we never truly felt unsafe. Expect to be completely wet so bring a change of clothes.
Don’t leave La Fortuna area without doing this activity!

This was an amazing adventure. Our driver Fabrizio from Seven Tours was very nice and insightful. He made sure that we were safe and provided nice snacks and ice cold water for our trip. He gave us many recommendations for local restaurants and activities. Venado Caves is so beautiful. Our guide Augusto was fun and made this a wonderful journey. The caves are a must see. For a small fee we got the photo/video package which was well worth the price. This was challenging for my husband and I since we are in our late 40s but my teenagers had no problem.

It is not easy to find the caves. They are in an area where your wifi probably will not work so pay attention. We passed the road twice because there is only one sign telling you where to turn. I couldn't get in touch with anyone to tell them that we were running late, but we got there and the guides were standing in the parking lot waiting for us.They were extremely friendly. I feel like every guide I met on my trip to Costa Rica was so kind and friendly. They give you helmets and they offered boots to use if you needed them. Then we walk to the cave which is a fun but slippery little walk. The guides pointed out native fruits and picked up fossils from the ground. We went through the cave and my dad could not go all the way to the top because he has bad knees. My kids aged 8 and 10 loved it. I loved it. I wish it were a longer tour. We saw scorpion spiders and different species of bats. After the tour you are served soda or coffee (the coffee was very good) a jelly roll and fruit cake. It was fun. I'm glad I did it.

Our guide was a friendly guy, clearly with a lot of experience. He always gave us choices when there was a split between a difficult and a slightly less difficult route, it is really different from the caves we have seen in Belgium and France. This is really climbing, ducking and squeezing through small openings. Recommended!

What an absolutely breathtaking experience my partner and I had here with Wilmer! Walking, crawling, and squeezing through the cave was one of the most exhilarating experiences I've ever had. We were able to see inside of this natural marvel while our tour guide explained everything- the fauna of the cave, how structures are formed, and how to navigate the caves. Wilmer made this such a wonderful experience, thank you!
