We went on this excursion to Hacienda Tayutic in our recent cruise stop in Puerto Limon in January 2017. The area around the pier was very poor and looked unsafe. We were glad that we took the ship’s excursion instead of venturing on our own, although our shore excursion to the Hacienda was only so-so and quite expensive. The ride... More

Having looked at the tours that were offered by our cruise line, we decided to take this tour. And what a tour it was. Even the 2hr bus ride was very good, and we learnt alot about Costa Rica. Once at Hacienda Tayutic, we found ourselves made very welcome. The demonstrations were extremely interesting, and very well presented. The views... More

This visit was part of a shore excursion that was a 2 hour bus ride from the port of Limon to the hacienda. The ride out gives one a better feel for the country from a shabby city area with barred windows out to the country side with beautiful views, lush jungle and forest with homes with no bars! The... Fascinating tour showing the journey from of sugar cane juice into brown sugar and fudge, roasting coffee beans. grinding, then brewing coffee, macadamia nut sorting and processing. Lunch was delicious with an amazing vista. The guide was interesting, knowledgeable and amusing. Learned a lot about the social structure of Costa Rica, a socialist country which can afford to provide education... More

We chosed this place for our cruise ship shore excursion in Costa Rica. It took about 2 hour to reach it by bus from Port Limon. We drove along the banana plantation field and beautiful tropical forest. We arrived at about 10.30 in the place namely Hacienda, located in the hill with a very beautiful view. We walked around the... More

Toured a 100 year old family owned Hacienda in the mountains near Turrialba. This was an amazing experience the lush green scenery, seeing the peaks of mountains in the distance some covered with a halo of fog, quaint villages with well-maintained homes bordered with flowers and fruit trees as we drove up steep inclines in the tour bus, to the... we went here as part of our organised tour and were so glad we got to see the views - which are just sublime. We were provided with a traditional lunch and then our guide took us through the processes of making sugar from sugar cane, coffee, and production of macadamia nuts. There were only the four of us but... More

This quiet attraction is tucked away in the most beautiful village of Sitio de Mata outside of Turrialba. I did a homestay with a family in the village whose mom happened to work at La Hacienda. I got to see the attraction for free because of that, but would have definitely paid $10-15 just to see the views. The main... More

The long drive from San Jose was absolutely worth it! This mountainside property has sugar cane, coffee, macadamia trees and lots of other types of flora and fauna that will hold the interest of anyone interested in Biology. The restaurant is located in an area with an amazing view of the lush mountainside. It was cool and breezy so even... More

Off the beaten track a bit with the last part of the drive on a good dirt road. Several fun demonstrations and facts about the plantation's macadamia nut production, sugar cane artisan production, and coffee processing. Great views from high off the valley floor. Many kinds of beautiful flora on the property. Jorge who is a native Costa Rican conducted... More
