The ride to the top of the volcano is very scenic and you get to see the countryside. In San Jose it was in the upper 20s C but at the top of the volcano it was around 15 C so may want to bring...More

Was a very good volcano up in the mountains with a great view of the volcano. Be careful of when the park closes as they will kick you out like they did to us :(

Having over 100 volcanoes and around 7 active, it was hard to pick which one to visit. We picked Poas as it was one of the active and it was an easy drive from San Jose. We coupled this with a visit to the La...More

We went here real early on Sunday morning. We had a clear sky just 20 km away from the top but by the time we reached the top it was cloudy, rainy and windy. The guy at the booth told us there was nothing to...More

When we arrived at the entrance, the cashier confessed us there was 0 visibility and he was extremely nice so we turn around and didn't pay anything (well, only time wasted). Various persons we talked to said it's very common the volcano is totally cloudy....More

Be sure you get there early in the morning. Also be aware that the clouds can move in and hamper visibility. It's a beautiful sight and well worth the trip. Pack a light windbreaker/jacket. There are public restrooms and small concession area.

I was lucky and came on a day were there was no massive cloud hiding the view. Make sure you come early! The sulfur pool is an amazing shade of blue and you can really feel the altitude on your hike up to the viewpoint...More

Such an extraordinary place, and so accessible! The view into the caldera is like something from another planet, a mix of barren rock and lush vegetation, shrouded in sulfurous clouds. And all an easy walk from the park entrance, situated on a well-maintained paved mountain...More

A very interesting and beautiful drive from San Jose to the national park. An interesting visitors center and than a short walk to the volcano rim. Unfortunately, the clouds did not lift and we could not see into the crater. Never the less, it was...More

I believe here is still minor activity / eruptions in June and July 2017 and I think the volcano is closed to visitors. Please check with local websites.
