Our boat took us around the edge of the massive man-made lake where we were able to see lots of species of birds, trees and vegetation and fish. We had a local guide who had a great knowledge of the area including how the lake...More

We pedal board on the lake, it is quite an experience. The volcano and lake are so beautiful. Morning view is better than the afternoon when we were there.

We had the pleasure of driving past this during our travels, definitely worth pulling over and taking some pictures

We took a water taxie accross the lake to get from Arenal to Monteverde. The lake and scenery is breath taking. Great view of volcanos if the clouds permit and the rolling mountains are amazing to see from on the lake. Lots of birds to...More

This was to be a highlight of our trip, ended up being a boat ride through fog and rain. The boat ride was slow which would be fantastic had the weather cooperated

Beautiful views of the volcano. Wildlife sitings in abundance near the lake. Keep your eyes peeled for the birdlife.

We walked with our group and leader to the lake through the national park, encountering en route a Green Vine Snake, an Eyelash Pitviper, and a False Coral Snake and hearing - at close quarters in the undergrowth - a single growl from a big...More

To see the environment around the lake and the volcano a bit we decided to choose the bus-boat-bus transportation from La Fortuna to Monteverde. Lukily we did so and could see the landscapes while getting to Monteverde and have not decided to do a separate...More

One will get to experience this lake if one goes from Monteverde to Arenal or vice versa using the Taxi-boat-Taxi service. It was misty the day we crossed and Arenal was covered in cloud. I’m sure on a fine day the view must be amazing.

I'm pretty sure that there are paddleboard rentals on either end of the highway that goes across the top of the dam on the way into La Fortuna.

I'm not sure as where we entered the Lake was the boat pickup and drop off. If you contact My Costa Rica they could answer your question. Enjoy your journey.

Rule of thumb with the weather there is: Jan-April - dry. May - July - could rain every day for short period of time. We did some trekking around volcano therefore it could be hot and humid in the summer. Then Aug - Dec - it... More
