Luckily it wasn't peak season so the place wasn't flooded with tourists. The hike is great, the river is spectacular, would do that again if possible!

A unique experience to see two rivers join and instantly change color! And the smell from the sulphur gas bubbling through the water is intense. Its a pretty easy walk, there may be a lot of other people there enjoying this special place. Call ahead...More

Fabulous, beautiful, good hike. Just a look at the photos might be enough to make you want to go. If you can hike a good distance you can hike up to where the two clear rivers joins and become sky blue and see the nano-particle...More

Moderate walk (stairs) but well worth it! The blue river is georgous. We've been told its not blue in the rain though. The waterfall is a must see! Lots of Morpho Butterflies flying around at the waterfall. Trails were well marked. Got to see water...More

This is the MOST magnificent of God's creations. A true beauty. The hike getting to the waterfall was fun: a little strenuous and muddy along the way with many steps to climb, but so worth it. Wear good hiking shoes & bring a rain jacket...More

Stunning beauty, through the rainforest, one of the most majestic waterfalls I have ever seen, and a "blue" river which is a sight not to be missed

We had a great day hiking to the waterfall. Ronald was our guide and he did a wonderful job with his English and his knowledge of the rain forest. He also helped us when it got slippery and steep. Nelson was our driver and picked...More

Which tour company did you use for the Rio Celeste Hike? Was it through the hotel? We are planning to go with our kids in July and trying to plan the trip ourselves.

Like the others said, really isn't necessary to take a tour to see Rio Celeste. If you're going from La Fortuna/Arenal, the only difficult part is getting TO Rio Celeste, which is around 2 hours from La Fortuna. We rented a... More
