It's a different zoo, specializing in birds although they have some other animals. Kids will love it, especially since there is a Canopy for over 5 years. It's a beautiful place to spend a morning or afternoon. In winter, from May to November, I recommend...More

This is not a traditional "zoo" as found in the United States. This area is where animals/birds/amphibians/reptiles are taken that are injured or have been confiscated as illegal pets. Some of the rescued animals/birds are treated and released back to the wild. Many will live...More

Had a great time. Has areas for families to picnic and a zip line. Loved seeing beautiful exotic animals that have been saved. And if your hungry, David's restaurant is adjacent. Great food, salad bar and the peacocks are gorgeous!

I was not sure about going to a zoo in a country known for its wildlife but the zoo Avenue Wildlife Rescue was a worthwhile stop. Knowing that they are actively rehabilitating animals injured from the wild is a plus. The environment is a pleasant...More

This is a great place to visit at the start of a trip so that you can see animals up close that are difficult to see in the wild. It is also nice to support a good cause. We were really impressed with the size...More

My wife and I took our 4 year son here and he loved looking at all the animals and birds. He really enjoyed getting close to the Peacocks. They even did their Peacock dance!

My husband and I visited here at the beginning of our trip to Costa Rica. Really a nice facility with a great assortment of birds plus some mammals and amphibians. Most exhibits were cage-like enclosures so keep that in mind if you're interested in photography....More

Chose to start my trip to CR with a visit to Zoo Ave so that I could get a real feeling for the birds and animals that I hoped to see out in the wild. I was not disappointed in fact saw several that I...More

I was travelling on my own in January and had a few hours spare while staying on Alajuela. I spent a couple of hours wondering around and looking at the animals. Personally I do not like Zoos at all and never visit them but this...More

Here, you can see all the animals you couldn't see on your safari! We saw some bireds like the toucan which we couldn't see. We also saw some big cats like the jaguarundi, which you can't see on safari. The place was really well designed,...More

I did not see visitors with pets. This is likely because you will see Iguanas walk across the walkways in front of you. There are Peacocks freely walking in the Zoo and Macaws out not in cages.
