We took the bus from Alajuela to Zoo Ave one afternoon for a very enjoyable half day trip. There were many species of birds and other animals native to Costa Rica and the interpretation was pretty good. It was one of the first places we...More

visited the zoo with kids aged 2, 4, 6. They enjoyed the visit a lot and "discovered" many animals, mainly birds but also reptiles and somr mammals. Not all enclosures maybe met latest standards (e.g. crocodile and cayman ponds look tiny) but site is reasonably...More

Beautifully maintained Zoo with a lot of birds. I really liked that there was a lot of educational input and awareness raising information.

This was a lovely experience. The animals are clearly cared for very well - the enclosures are excellent, spacious and filled with vegetation giving it a very natural feel. There is a wide variety of species at ZooAve with educational signs in front of each...More

We loved the bird rescue sanctuary part of this facility. Zoo Ave rehabilitates and releases birds into the old when it can. Not, of course, the permanent resident Toucan with a prosthetic bill. The bird part is fascinating. I became disappointed as we move into...More

Zoo Ave is amazing because if you missed seeing an indigenous animal in the wild while traveling through Costa Rica you will see it in this Zoo which is beautifully designed. What amazed me was seeing Macaws perched on Tree branches with no surrounding cages...More

We spent a couple of hours here and enjoyed it. Yes the animals are mostly in cages, but it gave us a chance to see some animals that we hadn't on our numerous nature walks around the country. Plus, the money you pay is for...More

ZooAve is an animal rescue zoo and it's roughly $20 US per person to enter. You can feel good about going there because that money goes toward the care of the animals and they only have animals that were rescued and are unable to be...More

I did not see visitors with pets. This is likely because you will see Iguanas walk across the walkways in front of you. There are Peacocks freely walking in the Zoo and Macaws out not in cages.
