This is a great visit if you're around. It's a beautiful, large lagoon that perfectly reflects the sky. It's visible from the road, so you don't need to pay anything to enjoy it. However, you can also pay a small amount to take the trail down to the edge of the lagoon, which is also very enjoyable. It takes 15-20 minutes, and it's a bit intense on the way back up. You can also add kayaking to the package, so you can do more than just walk down and then back up.

Beware of the access road. Even for 4x4. Beware of the snakes around the lagoon. My advise is to pay the restaurant owner to drive you down to the lagoon in his Land Rover.

What an amazing little spot this is that seems to have gone unnoticed by the tourists.
The road there is a bit crazy but this is CR and that’s the price you pay for this kind of nature.
We saw white-faced capucins and many different types of birds (including lots of humming birds) and if you keep walking you can get to Laguna Congo which has milky blue water that you can take a dip in.
Highly recommend as it’s a hidden gem and a steal at a price of about $4 to park your car!

I have lived in Costa Rica almost 18 years now and I had no idea that this jewel of a location is so close to the Arenal Volcano! It is isolated and a bit of a rough road to get there, but totally worth the effort. The town has like 1 restaurant, places to camp and I rugged climb down to emerald lakes. We did the first descent on a Stand Up Paddle board while we were there. It was an amazing day.

If you want and like the adventure get a 4x4 car or a dirt bike the road before the lake is really something else a real challenge but if you want to have fun just be careful and enjoy the ride

Good place to hike, moderate difficulty, not accessible for people with some disability.
Suggestion: I would include more signaling, since the trails are a little bit confuse so you could easily lose or don’t arrive to the correct lagoon (Hule or Congo).
Recommended. Carry a floater.

good thing we had a 4x4 Jimmy for access to the really rough roads in this area. We had a very enjoyable picnic in the vicinity of this beautiful lagoon. Tropical lush plants and breathtaking views.

The views of the Lagun are stunning, you can see many birds, hear the monkeys.. enjoy a gorgeous view from the restaurant and the room above the restaurant. If you are lucky and there is fog at dusk you will see the most magical views..

We travel a lot in Costa Rica and Laguna de Hule is definitely the back of beyond. Easily accessible from Nuevo Cincona is a restaurant and fabulous lookout over the ancient lake. Past the restaurant the road is not passable by car for parts of the year but it is a great hike down to the lake not to be missed by birders.
