CAUTION: despite what the website says, this place like several other “small” NPS sites has very limited hours. Currently it’s Friday and Saturday only (although like all good museums, the gift shop is open far longer—Tuesday through Saturday).
If it’s enough for you to walk the grounds, they have a handful of informational signs as you walk around the airfield, then come. If you need something more to make it worthwhile, plan your trip for a day when they’re open.

I’m
always on the lookout for a NPS place to visit and when I ended up staying in Newnan I decided to make the trip down. This is a great history lesson here because we weren’t taught anything about the Airmen in school as far as I can remember. I went on a weekday afternoon and had place almost to myself. There is no fee but they do have donation kiosks. The staff are very inviting, informative and friendly throughout. You can walk around and inside the two large hangars. There’s a lotta of reading to do as well as some audio stations which you use an old phone tom listen to. There are amazing displays and very informative videos detailing their work and what they had to deal with when returning home. Really worth a visit.

Unfortunately, we were not in the Tuskegee area on a day when the hangar was open. However, after reading reviews about being able to wander the site and read about the history on plaques throughout, we decided to check it out and were very pleased we did. It took about 1 leisurely hour to walk from the closed visitor center, around to all the buildings and then up the small hill and through the front gates, reading the whole way, and we got a great sense of the purpose and life of the not just the famed Airmen, but all the other men and women serving out of this area during the time. A worthwhile afternoon.

This is an outstanding museum, with great information, artifacts and wonderful videos. It is organized into two sections: Hanger 1 focuses on the period before the US got involved in WW2. Hanger 2 focuses on the period of the war. Our party was surprised at how excellent this museum is. The exhibits and videos in Hanger 2 were particularly captivating. It really deserves more widespread publicity to encourage many more to see it. Really superb. It was the highlight of our trip to Tuskegee, which we combined with our trip to museums in Montgomery. A great combination!

There is free parking on site as well as free admission. You enter through the Hanger One visitors area and can pick up a pamphlet to assist your exploration of the site. There are lots of signs, a video, and several artifacts to detail what happened and the amazing feats that later took place because of the men and women who trained here.

I liked this museum & it has a lot of reading & listening to really get the full story. We could have spent days here & still missed parts, I think. I was very impressed it is near a private airfield they have closer parking, but I can't remember the directions it's on the road right as you pull in if you need it. The walk down is mostly flat does go down & the realize coming back up. They have bathrooms & a gift shop. Not sure I'd bring young kids who can't read or stand still long enough to read or watch. They do a movie in the second hanger that tells about the experience a lot of these young men and women faced upon coming home.

The Tuskegee Site is amazing and has a lot of history presented in a good and logical way. It consists of two hangars as well as a few buildings surrounding them. The first hangar has a ton of memorabilia and a few planes. The rooms are well preserved with a ton of information. Do not forget to go around back and see the mess hall! The second hangar is a lot of pictures with some historical artifacts. I highly recommend a visit.

Hangers open Wed thru Saturday. Very well done museums with knowledgeable staff. Several audio visual stations throughout the museum. Would recommend the 25 min video.
The Tuskegee airman were certainly ahead of their times and despite their service to our country continued to face racism by civilians and military alike.
Worth the visit. We spent a solid 2 hrs there.

Fascinating history of the Tuskegee Airmen can't fail to impress. The skill, perseverance, and sheer patriotism of these men and women should be an inspiration to everyone.
From their fight to be allowed to train as airmen to their continued careers both in and out of the military while dealing with some of the worst of Jim Crow really are amazing.
Current hours are Wed - Sat from 10 - 4:30. and its free.

Went here about a month ago, it had recently reopened from the pandemic closure. The park memorializes the Tuskegee Airmen. Moton airfield, still operates, but believe it is not officially a part of the monument.
A couple of hangers have been adapted into display of some of the aircraft they used and some of the offices are supplied as if they were operating during the time-frame.
It is a nice place to visit. Not far from the interstate. Definitely, worth a visit

How much time is needed to visit this site?
Written 29 July 2017
I did not time this park right and went through it quick in little over an hour:( You can go at your own pace:) It simply comes down to how much time you want to spend at the airfield:) It will take you back into time:) Felt as if I was walking on hollow ground

Is there parking for a motorhome at the site?
Written 12 March 2016
We actually parked in both lots before. The parking lot above the air museum building had a path leading down to it was mostly made of dirt and gravel when my family visited the museum. However, this parking lot gives you a good scenic overview of the airfield. There are historical markers to read nearby leading down to the airfield. Check google maps to see how the parking lot is set up and if the path is paved and accessible for everyone's enjoyment. I hope you enjoy the visit and get some great memorable pictures too.
