About
Our iconic recording studio opened in 1969 when studio musicians now known as The Swampers - David Hood, Jimmy Johnson, Barry Beckett and Roger Hawkins - left FAME Studio and started their own operation. Fully restored to it's 1969 look thanks to a grant from Beats Electronics, the studio is open for tours and is once again a fully functioning recording studio at night. A wide array of merchandise is also available in store and online with new designs and the classic duds worn by Mick Jagger, Bog Seger, Willie Nelson, Linda Rondstadt, Rod Stewart etc. Tour guides start in the basement where the publishing offices were, proceed to the main studio and end in the gift shop of course! There are numerous Swamper sightings! Group tour rates are available and the studio is open to requests for special events and occasions like weddings and birthday bashes. We are not your typical hands-off museum. We encourage people to play the piano where Old Time Rock and Roll was recorded!

We saw a documentary about this location and found it very interesting. So we planned a stop in to see it in person. We went on a tour with about 10 people and the guide. The guide was very informative about the history of the facility and answered every question that was asked of him. It’s amazing what all took place in this tiny facility. They have it set up just as it was way back when. You actually stand in between all the equipment as the guide speaks. If you enjoy music and some of the history of it you need to take a couple hours and spend it here.

Visiting the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio was a stroll down memory lane with the soundtrack of my teen age years!

Saw the toilet seat Cher sat on when she was there to record her first solo album!

The two famous studios have tours lined up to complement each other. We started at Fame at 09:00 (just after) and we’re able to get to the 10:30 tour at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio without issue. This should be your second stop so you can see where it began and then come here to see the next part of the story. And to be honest, this is the stop with a bit more soul. No knock to FAME at all, but the vibe here is straight “music is awesome so let’s talk about it.” You’re likely to do both (and should), but if for some reason you can only make the one stop, then this is the one we would recommend. Our tour guide was an absolutely incredible wealth of knowledge.

3614 Jackson Highway is important in the history of rock and roll. This small studio continues to record some of the top artists in the country. Four session musicians, the Swampers, took a chance in the 1960s, and became one of the most sought after recording studios in the country. Our guide, Chase, knew his history, and his love for the studio was evident.

This is a must-do tour if you are visiting the recording capital of the world (Muscle Shoals).
The studio itself may be small, and is indeed much smaller than FAME studios nearby. That said our guide spent the best part of an hour to explain the studio's history and the numerous musicians and groups who recorded there. Some interesting tales as well.
Well priced and definitely worth including if you are visiting this area of beautiful Alabama.

It was amazing that this tour of this small building was a highlight of our trip - and we did lots of things in the area. The guide was so passionate and knowledgable about this place and the musicians and other talented people who managed, resided and recorded here. He was a great storyteller and history buff.
