We stopped at the Interpretive Center on our way to Selma and it provided extensive background information for our visit. This Interpretive Center is larger and more encompassing than the one in Selma, so it's really worth stopping at. There was a moving video presentation, interesting exhibits and knowledgable staff to provide background information and context.

You won't get the full experience of this drive without stopping at the National Park Service Interpretive Center located about 10 miles outside of Selma. It is informative, balanced and interesting. There are a number of historical sites along the highway. Allow extra time to stop and read the landmarks because it will give deeper meaning to the highway.

We stopped at the Interpretive Center, and there was a very good exhibit that reminded us of the one in Atlanta. It's about 24 miles outside of Selma on the road to Montgomery. It's where the tent city was set up during the march. There are other historical sights, of course, but if you are trying to pay attention to... More

We drove this amazing civil rights trail and we glad we did. We stopped at the historical markers and the national park along the way to gain more info and knowledge about the struggle for equality. I highly recommend taking this route.

If your drive takes you near Montgomery, I recommend that you take the time to make as many stops as you can along the Alabama Civil Rights Trail. The drive to Selma from I-65 just south of Montgomery along US-80 is 49 miles through gentle rolling hills in a rural setting. While I-80 is likely different today (4-lane divided highway),... More

We traveled this highway for the historical significance and to learn more about the Selma to Montgomery March. Although the markers along the way of the campsites for the march are simply road signs, it was nice to where each campsite was located. The long drive from Selma to Montgomery (approximately 48 miles) gave time for reflection and thought about... More

We traveled this highway with two 13 year old girls and explained to them that folks walked this highway for a symbolic showing of their unity. It was a great catalyst to a discussion of how far one is willing to go for what is right!! Our girls truly enjoyed!!

I expected there to be multiple things to see along this route. We had trouble finding the historical sites that were mentioned.

The highway clearly designates the locations of the campsites during the historic march to Montgomery.
