"Pudong, in its 13-year history, has surprisingly progressed in its economic strength and its urban development. This 556-sqaure-kilometer farmland 13 years ago is well on its way toward a modern metropolis. As the epitome of Shanghai' modernization and the symbol of China's reform and opening up drive, Pudong has become an ideal land for global investors." http://pudong.shanghaichina.org/jiangsx.htm

Great area

Pudong is one of the best places to live and hang out in Shanghai. And it is totally worth a visit. Lots of my favorite coffee places and shopping places are here.

First time you see this skyline, or even the 10th time -stunning and surreal. Its really that futuristic and ridiculously awesome. A definite must see if you're in town, or worth stopping by even if you're not (and of course 100 other reasons to visit Shanghai as well)

Expansive and ultra modern, this area has something for everyone. Highest shopping and attractions like the aquarium make this a full day experience. Take in the views from any of the skyscrapers, especially the World Financial Center.

It's worth going at night so you can see the Bund from the other side. We found it difficult to walk around just because the buildings (unlike Hongkong) are just so spread out. The IFC is way to expensive with just brandnames and the Superbrand mall is has a strange mix of shops. If you didn't have business to attend... More

We went to this area on New Year's day. What an amazing area to visit. When it gets to evening and the lights come on, it is spectacular. Worth a visit.

Less busy than the other side of the river but a convenient place to stay and most major attractions were accessible via line 2. Check out Christine's cake shop near exit 12 for cheap on the go snacks.

This area is vast and with so many contrasts. There is the area by the river with massive sky scrapers and shopping centres, but it also stretches out to the airport as well as north and south. Plenty to do and see although the metro connections are not good as you move east.

I would recommend you go at night. I doubt you are there for business which this place is by day. We actually did visit during the day but it looks so much better at night. If we had more time we would have. The lights seem to sparkle and glimmer from the beautiful tall buildings. Such a perfect place to... More

Magnificent new buildings going up one after another! Shanghái is a magnificent city and having visited it 50 years ago, there´s no way to describe the stupendous changes!

This is where you find modern shanghai with its financial district, shoppingmall and newly built skyscrapers. Its a sharp contrast to the image many first time visitors have of Shanghai and China, but shows the fast development the country has experienced

Staying in Century Park

Neighbourhood Profile
Century Park
Shanghai residents see Pudong’s suburbs as the place that grown-ups retreat to when they’re ready to settle down and stop living in the cramped confines of a refurbished lanehouse. The areas around Century Park are some of the most desirable as they are in close proximity to the Metro Lines, granting easy access to the heart of Puxi. The park itself is a huge draw, it’s one of Shanghai’s biggest and there are sports fields tucked into one of its corners, but five-star hotels, museums and great malls make life in the Century Park area easy for the homesick foreigner. And if living in a Western bubble in China isn’t your thing, there is plenty of local flavor to be had in between the major development. Some of Lujiazui’s futurism can also be seen in buildings and sculptures throughout the neighborhood as well.
