Top ways to experience Shanghai Grand Theater
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.

Beautiful facility. We walked up in there wearing jeans and I had a bottle of baijiu(moonshine) that of which they held for me at the entrance until we left. The staff were nice but some of the people we sat next to made us feel like we didn’t belong. We got to experience being lasered from above for trying record a bit and a long stare/lecture from the lady next to me because I decided to eat a tic-tac during the performance and the rattling noise bothered her. She glared at me through the whole process of taking my tic-tacs out of my pocket, giving one to To my wife, and getting myself one. Then she told me not to do it lol. I was laughing and ate about 4 more during the show. Lol

Overall, the theater was beautiful, the musicians were amazing, and we enjoyed it for what it was.

We visited the Grand Theatre complex in a tour group. It is a very striking building with a large and ornate lobby. The building houses three separate theatres and provides a diverse programme of events.
We did not see a show but our tour party were here for lunch in the very large and grand banqueting hall at roof level. Great service, great food and fabulous views of the Shanghai skyline.

While I never had a chance to visit inside I found the architecture of the Shanghai Grand Theater grand and interesting.

Performed in this venue and the facilities are stunning. The building itself is lovely and we had a wonderful time. Had a brief look at the calendar of events are it seems to have a very diverse and busy programme. Definitely worth having a look at if in Shanghai.

I've visited the Shanghai Grand Theatre a few times over the past year for awards shows and other international events. It's a lovely space, quite imposing, well located, with a nice space downstairs for refreshments/cocktail events, just wish they were able to allow nicer catering inside.

While it was closed on Monday, I still had a chance to walk by and take some pictures of the building. It is one of the popular and most photographed building in Shanghai. Very near to Shanghai museum, so probably can visit both.

I have been to a few shows at this location. I have always had a great seat at a very reasonable price. The sound is great and the types of performances varied. I would reccomend checking out the schedule regularly and seeing some great shows!

We attended a concert of Western music in this spectacular new concert hall building (across the street from the Shanghai Museum in People's Square). The acoustics were quite good, and the architecture is spectacular. There was no taxi line after the concert; almost everyone seemed to walk down the street to the People's Square subway station (where taxis also cruise).
