After a stroll along the Bund, you got to cross the road and enjoy the nice building along the road. Those are historical building and the Shanghai's Municipal government takes great effort to preserve the building.

A walk along the Bund just after dark is almost a requirement. The juxtaposition of Old Shanghai and New Shanghai is incredible. Make sure you get there before they turn off the lights. I think you've got until 10pm. The only caveat I can offer is for single guys: You WILL be approached by hookers every 2-3 minutes if you... More

Shanghai and its famous Bund. Historical buildings, promenade along the River, facing world Iconic Building on the Pudong side. It is absolutely stunning during the day and mesmerizing in the evening. Take the time to stroll and enjoy.

The Bund is beautiful as a lookout over the Pudong area, but is also stunning when you look back to the iconic buildings on this bank of the river. Most of the buildings are classic and light up beautifully after dark. Well worth a long and slow stroll along the bank in the late afternoon.

Come on, visiting Shanghai without making a stroll along the Bund is like to pay the ticket to enter in the movie theater and keep the eyes closed for the whole show. I do not add anything of something that you can easily find in every tour guide of Shanghai, but if I were on you I would spend a... More

Very crowded but well worth a look at the old buildings from the British influence times and it featured heavily in Steven Speilbergs "Empire of the Sun"... my grandfather had an office there between the wars so it had special significance for me.... Peace Hotel at one end is worth a visit inside

Situated by the river, opposite of Shanghai modern business center, classic Architectures on The Bund boast the city's financial peak, this is the must visit for all travellers in Shanghai. It is where the true history of Shanghai began. I visited both during the day and at night. The best time to scroll around this street is at twilight, where... More

I visited the Bund 20 years ago and returned in 2016 on a holiday. On my first visit I was fancinated by the old buildings many of which were in need of maintenance, I was pleased to see a lot of money had been spent in the years that followed and that this area now capitvated the past in a... Staying in The Bund

Neighbourhood Profile
The Bund
While there are certainly many other “bunds” in the world, “the Bund” refers to Shanghai’s famous waterfront. The area’s Gothic, Art Deco and Beaux Arts monoliths were built when it was part of the Shanghai International Settlement run by the British and Americans. The atmosphere of colonial-era luxury has endured over time and is now found in the five-star hotels, luxury brand boutiques and expensive restaurants that can be found within the historic buildings. A cultural center has built up away from the water and some of Shanghai’s best art galleries and museums are housed close to the Bund. Nighttime views of Pudong and the rest of the city also make for a great backdrop at the many rooftop clubs.
