Had a couple of hours to spare and Peter, our very articulate and well informed Guide from top view holidays" suggested this. We never regretted it. It soo old town but yet very cosmopolitan. All kinds of things to buy, lots of places to eat and drink. It would not a bad idea to just walk around taking in the... More

It is one of my favorite places except for the high crowds and easiness to get lost. Beyond the boutiques that you can find everywhere selling the same cheap stuff, there are real artists with unique pieces here, clothes & accessories. There is also an interesting guy who models people into dolls (Barbie size but with a much bigger head)... More

It is an area of lanes of little shops which carry a variety of items from clothes, shoes, souvenir items and even food. You will need to bargain before buying anything as the items are not cheap.

The Tianzifang maze-like shop area of Taikang road is indeed a fun place to explore. Maybe best people watching spot in Shanghai and a fun place to snap pics.

Taikang Road or also known as TianZiFang 田子坊 is next to the Dapuqiao Metro line 9. This place have lots of small shop and stall selling different kinds of items. Always make sure you visit a few places before you decided to buy anything as there are many similar store which is selling the same item with much lesser price.... More

Small shops, bars and narrow streets.Worth to see as an complement to the new Shanghai. I recommend you spend some time here in the afternon and early evening.

Having some time to waste on a Sunday I stopped at Tianzifeng. It had been some time since I had been here so it was cool to take a look at the small shops with interesting merchandise and have some drinks in small cafes. This place is crowded and has the feel of old China. There are some good restaurants... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
