Interesting Place, Great Displays at this time of year .... just before Lunar Festival.

We had walked from the Promenade to this Temple and Market, interesting walk. When we got close the shops had many displays of Lunar New Year Lanterns and Spring Blossoms. We... read more

AVOID the City/Town God Temple in Zhujiajiao! Once you’re inside you’ll be bulldozed into a dodgy fortune-telling & then asked/expected to donate to the gods for your good fortune (preferably in multiples of ¥100!), before your brain has the change to fully engage in flight-mode and process what a total CON this temple is.

We had walked from the Promenade to this Temple and Market, interesting walk. When we got close the shops had many displays of Lunar New Year Lanterns and Spring Blossoms. We arrived at the Temple Square and great looking displays on buildings for Lunar New Year celebrations .... looks neat. We wandered our way through and I resisted buying nic... More

the temple was restored in 1992 in "mainland" style so.. if you are looking for truly ancient, "authentic" Chinese temple, go elsewhere like Shanxi Wu Tai Terrace where there are plenty. also the staff would "encourage" you to to light the incense sticks, then "encourage" you to pay a donation. you can simply ignore them or just light the incense... The best bazzar for great bargain to shop. The building itself show how great the architect was. As tourist this is the best place for you to enjoy the best scenery with young local people. Yes there are so many things to shop here and you may feel its not worth to buy. However, be a great tourist by enjoy... More

Visited but did not go into the temple. Too many tourists, the place seem more for commercial purpose than a temple.

If you have a choice, please avoid this temple. It has nothing worth visiting, and be really careful of the tourist trap.

Went to see a temple but ended up in a tourist market, good place for buying trinkets and gifts for friends and family, pretty busy but a fun experience none the less.

This temple is not so big but very famous in Shanghai, even in south-east China. It is very old and very classic. Most tourist from other part of China may like go visit and have short pray there to request for good luck or good health.

Beware this Taoist temple. A part of it was undergoing renovations when we visited a few days ago (23rd dec 2013) but it was still open. When we entered, a man immediately handed my father and I joss sticks to pray. After praying, he gestured toward the donation box and my dad put 10yuan in. The same guy then pointed... More

This was my second visit to Chenghuang temple and it was more interesting than my first. If you enjoy haggling this is a great place to visit. Besides the restaurants and food stands, I don't think any of the merchants had fixed pricing. While there I witnessed colleagues try and deal for anything from small trinkets to hand made wooden...
