Come here after the Shanghai Museum. There are plenty of street food places where you can get a takeaway lunch and relax for half an hour. Surprisingly, no scammers made an approach which made for an even more relaxing break!

The People's park in Shanghai marks the centre of the mega city. It's not too big but each weekend you can see the Shanghai Marriage Market, i.e. a place where people try to find good matches for their children and grand children. However, there are only few photos of the "candidates", thus, you should have someone speaking at least a... More

Nice park in downtown Shanghai. The marriage market is very strange - talk about a meat market. Lots of open spaces and we were there in time for the cherry blossom. Plenty of places to get a snack or a drink.

Remin 'People's' Park has a bit of everything: the local park culture of tai-chi, qi-gong and various musicians (saxophonists), the incredible marriage market which usually takes place between 10-12 on Saturdays (thousands of parents and their hanging 'ads' searching for potential mates for their sons or daughters) and unfortunately plenty of scammers looking to sucker you in to buying over-over-over-priced... I grew up in this park, so... now it's much smaller comparing with 20 years ago, u may just go through it instead of walking on big street from west nanjing road to the people's square, about 20 min. the contemporary art museum inside is ok, gets some nice exhibitions from time to time, and the terrace is perfect for... I also got this experience just yesterday, one Chinese couple asked me for help to take picture of them with background of nothing. I was quickly notice that they are scammers as soon as the girl say 'You look like Chinese'. That is totally just lips service as it is obviously I am not a Chinese. The guy try to... More

A lovely big park in the heart of the city. Very pleasant place to sit down and have a break from the heat of the day (grab yourself a Haagen Dazs from the shop) find a bench in the shade and enjoy the atmosphere. Lots of amazingly manicured garden and well cared for landscaping if you're into that sort of... More

This is a really nice, large park in the middle of the city that is a good place to relax, with a beautiful lotus pond or check out the famous Shanghai marriage market on the weekend. However, this review will be mainly about the scammers that operate there to help people avoid falling into their trap! Because since this area... More

We got up early and made our way to park around 6am. It was beastly hot during our stay in Shanghai so it is much more pleasant in the morning. Lots to see. Many people practicing Tai Chi, playing badminton, or exercising in the park. We came across a group of hardcore exercisers who welcomed us to watch them lift... More

This park is lovely. It has a big pond which was full of lotus in flower when we visited, and offered enough shade to escape the heat (40 degrees centigrade and 90% humidity!). Being a Sunday, one section of the park was packed with parents and relatives advertising the attributes of their sons/daughters/nieces or nephews as prospective spouses. This was... More

Staying in People’s Square

Neighbourhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
