Five stars because the tour guide was so enthusiastic. That really makes the difference between a good tour and a bad one. Fame Studios had more country artists there so I was more interested in the pop/rock artists who recorded at Muscle Shoals Studio. However, learning the behind the scenes info about the songs, instruments and the location in general made it very interesting and worth it. They had some cool items in the gift shop as well.

We came for the 330pm tour. Check their website for tour times - or call them - as it is a bit unclear on the website. Bottom line is that they are a working recording studio, so they give one tour in the morning and one in the late afternoon. The tour itself was amazing. We paid the extra $20 per person for the full back stage tour and think that it was worth it. So many performers have recorded here. Our guide was Jackson, the grandson of the originator Rick Hall, and he was very knowledgeable and personable.

I cannot begin to express my disappointment in this tour. The tour guide seemed to know very little about what she was talking about and when you know more than the tour guide, that's a problem. She was pleasant, but almost right off the bat she said she didn't like country music. I'm not a huge fan of it, but if I was giving a tour I wouldn't offer my views on that. The tour only lasted about 40 minutes. They did give senior and military discounts.

If you know anything about about the history of music in this region, you must visit Fame. Just looking at the pictures alone make it worth the trip. Amazing to walk through the same doorways as many of the greats to ever record an album.

My teen-age sons and I toured the recording studio as a side trip to our long weekend trip to Huntsville. We purposely watched the documentary prior to the tour to get more background about the artists and the studio. Unlike the other reviewers, we thought it was a nice touch that the tour guide is Rick Hall's grandson. Linda Hall was working that day and spoke to our group. Spooner Oldham was helping in the studio and played a tune on one of the instruments! We thought it was a pretty awesome and unique experience!

"Where so much music was born"! From Aretha, to The Allman Brothers, and many more in between: Etta James, Wilson Pickett, Bobbie Gentry, and so many more worked in this recording studio. The tour is great-our guide played snippets of music during the tour, and explained the stories behind the songs. See some of the original instruments used during many recordings you will surely recognize ! Say Hi to Linda Hall, still working hard in the office!!

OK. It is just a recording studio and I could see how someone could not understand what the fuss is about. However, for me, to stand where all those legendary musicians made those recordings was a great thrill. The grandson of Rick Hall gave the tour. So many great stories. Combine this tour with the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio tour for the complete experience.

We were thrilled to visit the place where the songs we grew up with were recorded. We had seen the documentary and knew we needed to make a side trip to Muscle Shoals when in TN to visit family.
The young man who was our tour guide is the grandson of Rick Hall. He spent a lot of time talking about his Pepaw and Memaw, but had no understanding of the importance of the early recordings that were made there. Sadly, he had no love or emotional connection with the music that is the soundtrack of our lives. Perhaps there's another function he can serve at the studio.
Still, it was magical to be in the room where Mustang Sally was recorded, and where Freebird was composed. I highly recommend music lovers make Game Recording Studios a destination.

This is a do not miss attraction for any music fan. Fame Recording Studios back stage tour was well worth the extra money. Hearing the stories about the who's who that recorded there and learning more about new artists recording was a thrill. You can see photos of Rick Hall and the swampers, and the musical legends who sang and played the instruments still in the studios. An amazing piece of rock/soul music history.

The behind the scenes tour was a bit boring. First, if you have a problem with stairs, it's not for you. Also, if you are expecting any rock and roll or hillbilly rock and roll, you won't see it. Apparently Aretha Franklin was their money maker. When Wes started raving on Beyonce I lost interest- hey Wes, it's called autotune and everyone uses it now. The Muscle Shoals studio tour in Sheffield was sooooooooo much better. They let you play the piano and take closeup pictures. Also, Bob Seeger rules.
