Fantastic smaller art museum in the south. Docents are super nice and helpful. This museum is free, but I gave a voluntary donation.

Several exhibits centering on black artists and black abuse/exploitation, all of which were affecting and thought provoking.

A section on more classical art, some modern art thrown in. Some more regional black art. I think this is mainly part of their permanent collection.

There is also a section for glassblowing and glassware. A sculpture garden, which is tranquil and versatile.

The art museum is placed in the middle of a beautiful park! Shiny and relaxing bodies of water. Expansive green spaces. Walking paths.

They have a restaurant called Verde. I didn’t eat at this restaurant, but I know you can order your food and eat on the patio overlooking the water or take your food out into the sculpture garden. That’s good enough for me!

Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts this museum is free and has a great variety of art from paintings to indoor and outdoor sculptures. The interactive children’s area is fabulous, especially a projector that creates designs with the outline of your body, could have spent a half hour there alone. Highly recommend.

Really a nice museum with an impressive and varied collection! We came to see the Gee’s Bend quilts. We left after seeing some wonderful blown glass, TH Benton, Frank Stella, Deborah Butterfield, Hopper, Rembrandt and on and on and on. What a treat! What’s more, there’s no admission fee.

I have been here before and enjoyed it but came back to see the Ginny Ruffner exhibit. Try to get there before it closes, it's just amazing. If that exhibit is gone, the other exhibits are wonderful and well worth your time. I was a little surprised at the quality of the museum in a city the size of Montgomery.

My daughter and I enjoyed our visit even though the kids’ area and many of the exhibits were blocked off. The tranquil sculpture garden and picturesque lake provided a meditative stroll. We learned quite a bit about Alabama history through the permanent collection. Admission is free. Temperature checks at entrance and masks required inside.

New Sculpture Garden is very nice. The last Installation before Covid is lots of fun. The pyramids woven from locally gathered branches almost look like they could walk away.
Inside museum has an excellent collection. Also an extremely nice and knowledgeable security guard.

This museum‘s quality rivals that of any of the fine museums in the South, and is one of the best museums I’ve ever visited. It’s a tribute to Montgomery that such a marvelous, free museum exists. Both the grounds and architecture are breathtaking. Once inside the museum, the high dome, white columns, gleaming marble floors and open design provide a regal atmosphere to enjoy art. It’s well-lighted with plenty of natural light to view the work. It’s easy to drift from one exhibit to the next, but it doesn’t hurt to have the gallery map handy. Though the name says “fine arts” the traveling exhibits on display during our visit were contemporary. Material Transformations featured recycled art and Amazing Graze filled two galleries with the work of Winfred Rembert, a Georgia self-taught cultural artist. We also toured the other galleries, which included a nice collection of decorative arts (china and glass) and modern paintings. The exciting children’s section is highly interactive. In this hands-on museum, kids can explore and create art. It includes stations like racing cars on a contemporary piece of art, choosing a frame, composing a painting with velcro pillows, and drawing while sitting at easels. I couldn’t resist making a print myself at the four-press print station. My only disappointment was that the museum shop didn’t open until noon, though the museum opened at 10 on the Saturday morning of our visit – I wanted to buy a book on the Material Transformations exhibit.

This museum is housed in a beautiful building across from the magnificant Alabama Shakespere Festival. I found myself saying "this is Montgomery Alabama???". The permanent collection includes a John Singer Sargent, William Merritt Chase and an Edward Hopper!!! and more. The children's section has lots of hands on activities. There is a cute little cafe, gift shop and ducks to feed. Oh, and admission is FREE. This museum is a must see when visiting Montgomery.

Was blown away by the mix of old and modern. Displayed art was national in scope not just local. Everything inside and out was very high quality.
Signage was a little small for my aging eyes and too low for my tall body.
Restaurant was exceptional. Highly recommend. Among the top three regional museums I have seen.

The Visual Arts are the main feature at this beautiful Museum. The Performing Arts are showcased in a 250 seat state of the art auditorium with excellent acoustics. This Contemporary brick structure looks as if it is floating on the water.. if you can imagine that? A spillway with a waterfall and a spinning wind structure make this place unique in a calm serene kind of way..Add the ducks and the geese and suddenly you are linked to the Shakespeare Theater and the rest of Blount Cultural Park. Collections are impressive and the afternoon lectures are educational and easy for all ages. The docents are detailed and are just good at the idiom of storytelling? They are patient with small children and really everyone involved. There is emphasis given to the local area as well as on an international level. Anyone familiar with The Central Alabama Black Belt knows about Geez Bend. The Geez Bend Quilters were featured during my visit. I have seen International vocalist and Instrumentalist in the MFA auditorium. Tickets are surprisingly affordable. MFA with its reputation and credibility is most deserving of its locale neighboring ASF in Blount Cultural Park. Even their eatery is gourmet level and the Museum store is pleasantly surprising with museum related take home items.

Thanks so much for your wonderful review Johnathan... you have obviously visited us several times and experienced many of our program options—from educational to musical events and special offerings. We are so fortunate that our Museum in Montgomery is supported by the City of Montgomery and our local community so that we can maintain FREE admission.
