We very much enjoyed our visit inside the State Capitol. The two gentlemen at the entrance (one a policeman and one a guide/helper) could not have been kinder, fun or more helpful. It is well worth a visit and free.

I have visited approx. 15 state capitols and AL's is still one of the finest for me. It is evocative of the past, regal of it's nature, and placed in a lovely setting with the complex of white facade offices, museum, and nicely remodeled/remodelING Dexter Ave. Oct/Nov are the best months to visit as the temperatures are cooling and the... Impressive southern architecture inside and out. Obtained a free visitors parking pass from the TI at the old train station. Worked well on the grounds of the Capitol. The state flag display was worth checking out on the grounds.

We were in town on a Sunday night, so could not go inside. But it's a lovely building on the outside, found the star on the steps where Jefferson Davis took his oath of office (and showed it to some local teenagers who were not aware of it), nice statues on the grounds, and enjoyed a beautiful sunset from the... We stopped in the capitol for an hour and visited the old capitol building. It has a grand spiral staircase. The dome is beautifully painted as well. We were greeted by a kind gentleman who was a representative. If you are a fan of Alabama history you should stop here. Just make sure to leave your pocket knife in the... More

This is free to enter, will not take long to view but is definitely worth a look. The staff are all really friendly.

A good tour for educational purposes. The building has great designs . The tour guide himself is a great addition to the tour. The stories he told us were historical.

We were in town for the Auburn/Texas A&M game and took time to tour the capital. The tour guide was an amazing man who had marched with Dr. King and had amazing stories to share.

The title sort of says it all. The Old House of Representatives and Old Senate are just chairs (not original) and tables. Nothing really to write home about

Lots of things are always going on at the capitol. There is always a tour going on and when the legislatures are in, it is especially busy. The architectural detail of the capitol is beautiful.
