Melaka History and Ethnography Museum is housed in Stadthuys, an oleh Dutch VOC building build around the year 1650s. The History Museum contain exhibits on the founding of Melaka and dioramas about the city during the Portuguese, Dutch and British period. There is a free guided tour of the History Museum every Saturday and Sunday at 10.30am and 2.30pm. The guided tour is in English.

Lots to see in the museum about every aspect of history and culture of Melaka. Inexpensive. Not many visitors on a weekday (even though the square outside was bustling).

This is the essence of Malacca. Here you will learn about the periods of occupation of the Portuguese, Dutch and British and how they influenced the region. Excellet!!

If you are into history, like me, I highly recommend to visit this museum. Entrance ticket is MR 10 for adult, but it includes 5 (!) museums, most of them are in the same complex. I really enjoyed reading all the history about different era’s...More

This museum is good and big. The first section is about the history of the people and there culture. The next section about the history of the city. With separate halls for Portuguese, Dutch and Japanese ruling. Very informative with lots of information.

Really interesting museum showing life for the various ethnic groups in Melaka. Pretty unusual as everything is slanted towards the ethnic Malays in almost everything in Malaysia even though here are really significant non Malay groups such as the Chinese and Indians. When entering the...More

Fascinating museum , full of articles and insights on islam and the history of the introduction of Islam to Malaysia and its subsequent struggles. Sadly the building is in need of repair with several rooms wet fater recent rain storms
