The river has some pretty interesting aromas drifting off of it. In certain parts it's very dirty with a lot of rubbish and even dead fish floating on the surface. Requires some maintenance & cleaning up

Malacca is an historical Portuguese settlement which was on the Silk Road. Old buildings along the River in the Jonker Street vicinity have been restored in their original condition & it is well worth a visit. A large variety of foods from all parts of the world are available & the prices are reasonable.

We walked down the canal and got the ferry back. It was cheap and efficient. It saved us from getting too hot and took us back to the heart of Melaka.

Best viewed at night due to the heat. River passes eateries n bars downtown and doesn't cost that much. Would prefer a boat with seats facing forward, these face each other. The lights are beautiful esp at night. A great trip, worth the effort.

While we have a cruise on this river we can see many street art along the way. The explanation also clear enough to understand the situation in Malacca.

Better take for the first time you're arrive. Then you will plan for next place to visit. For foreigners 16 RM. 30-40 minutes.

I tried the river walk for few minutes, and had eaten my late lunch at Dutch Harbour which offers a seat near the river walk. It's a solemn place to stay for few hours, though river cruises that passes by every hour might interrupt your tranquility; and you might get unlucky having to sit on a table next to foreign... At 4 USD for 40 mins for foreigners, this is a fair deal. Worth it! If nothing else, two reasons. Firstly, it is a very pleasant way to travel through Melaka - water + movement = cool air Secondly, Kampung Morten, a nicely re-generated, local village. Named after this colonial money grabbing chap (aka revenue collector) who seems to have... More

We visited Malacca with our 15& 16 year old daughters and had a great time. I wish we had longer to spend there. The streets and architecture were pretty cool. The streets are only wide enough for one car and there are no footpaths. Needless to say you need to stand against the buildings or jump in a doorway if... More

If you do not mind the intense heat, I recommend walking along the river. I spent hours doing this. It's beautiful, you can meet people, and you can stop at cafe's along the way. The boat doesn't give you a chance to stop where you want to stop. This is a great way to appreciate beautiful Malacca and to escape... More
