This is a beautifully preserved building which now marks Independence but older residents of the town bemoan that there is little if no mention of its past now after being acquired for the current purpose. It was formerly a club with cricket matches being played...More

The outside is very nice. Going in was so-so. If my grandfather-in-law had not been in some of the pictures I would have have been as interested. This was good for my kids to see some history on their mothers side of the family. The...More

Splendid colonial building with mix Dutch colonial and Malay architectural influences. I had to come four times different days to be able to enter, as the place seems to be regularly closed during official opening hours… The rooms inside display the journey of Malaysia from...More

The museum shows the story of Malaysian independence and is well set out with pictures / posters, text and photos so that you have bite size chunks to digest. We were visiting during the run up to the GE14 and it gave us some great...More

This museum is stacked to the rafter with info about the history of Malaysia and its independence from GB But the print is difficult to read and there is fat too much of it. Lost the week to live trying to take it all in

Independence Memorial houses an interesting museum which deals with the history of Malacca and Malaysia from the Sultanate period in the 15th century up to independence in 1957. There are a lot of good displays with English and entrance is free.

I really didn't know much about the history of this country aside from that it was colonized by the Portuguese, the British, and the Dutch. It also fell under Japanese rule for a period of time. This museums expands on all of that and presents...More

The displays inside are mainly post-colonial stuff which I guess will be appreciated more by those who are familiar with that part of the country's history (which I'm not since I hardly know any of Malaysia's history), so to me it was just a few...More

The building is really a beautiful structure, maybe the highlight. The interior is packed with written documents with tiny remarks in English trying to interpret the documents. There are interactive spots that do not work which was a shame. The search for true independence was...More
