The Cheng Ho Cultural Museum is a museum dedicated to the great mariner, Cheng Ho, and famous voyages. Broadly, the museum is divided into a biographical section of the life of Cheng Ho, and the remainder to his voyages. The museum goes into great details about the voyages, the organisation of the ships, the planning and control of the fleet and the legacy left behind by the voyages. There are hundreds and possibly thousands of artefacts, some of which are very high quality. This is probably the best museum in Malacca and I’d definitely recommend it for anyone interested in history.

I’m not a big historical museum type of person, but this one was fairly interesting. Displays kept my attention. If you enjoy learning about history, you’ll probably enjoy this museum. Note: you will need to go up steps.

Excellent museum which traces the fascinating life of a Chinese Muslim explorer. The guy spent his life traveling half the globe with a fleet of 28,000 men in the 15th century. A unique life.
The historiographical theories on its role in the spread of Islam are certainly to be taken with a grain of salt but still deserve your attention!

A lot has been made recently of Cheng Ho after Gavin Menzies controversial book "1421" and he is becoming better known in "the west" as well as having a bit of a renaissance for the Chinese.

From the outside this museum looks fairly small, so you will be surprised to the actual size of it once inside, with four floors and a small "rainforest walk" section (basically an alleyway with trees). The building is rumoured to be built on land once used for Ho's trading warehouses. There is an option for the guide, although its not compulsory. If, like myself, you can't read Chinese then i suggest you take up the guide option, you will get so much more out of the museum. They are professional guides with an avid interest in the subject matter.

The displays are varied, some very well done others looking a bit amateurish. The section of the different leaders of once prosperous Melaka Empire was perhaps the best part.

The gift shop was mixed bag, with some impressive high-end (and high-prices) pieces, as well as the usual low-end rubbish.

The 20RM admission fee (10RM for those with student cards and for kids) is maybe a little bit pricey, but after spending over 2 hours in the museum i suppose it was about fair.

Initially, we were a bit sceptical about this museum. But, it turned out to be a wonderful visit. The tour guide was friendly and helpful. The museum was very big and well organised. The displays were really amazing. It brought you back to the old day. There were foot prints on the floor that guided you all areas so you would not miss a thing. Theater show and chinese puppet show with tea served were included in the entrance fee. Very informative and historical value.

This museum is informative and puts into perspective the seven voyages of Admiral Cheng Ho of the Ming Dynasty. The tour starts with a film chronologizing his voyages, You are then left to explore the two floors filled with antiques, porcelain pots, artifacts, documents, maps and models of his fleet. On display is also his compass and the maps of the skies and stars which display his navigational skill and genius during that era, 1405- 1433. The museum is old and dusty with display shelves needing cleaning. However a wealth of information is showcased here and this is a must visit.

Cheng Ho was a chinese Ming Dynasty admiral who visited Melaka while en route to the Western Ocean from 1405-1433. The museum showcases many evidence of cultural exchange between the local ethnic and the Chinese, among others, treasure ships, tea houses and other navigation instruments. It´s really impressive and definitely is worthy a visit!

Wow - how informative and eye opening as to how the Chinese were far more advanced than anyone else in terms of colonialist expansion. Traveling with a fleet of tens of thousands of people required significant logistical planning - food alone (growing vegetables/fruits on board designated food ships). Europeans didn't know how to avoid scurvy for centuries longer.

One of the most typical museums of Malacca. Chinese Admiral Cheng Ho is central to the history of the city. This old-fashioned museum is an indispensable halt in the heart of the historical city. A rich collection of items nicely supplements the captivating texts and videos. The moving model of Cheng Ho’s fleet illustrates the vertiginous scale of his odyssey throughout the planet.

This is a great little museum. For some reason, Cheng Ho has been left out of the history books in the USA. He was quite the explorer. Loved the fact he wasn't a conqueror, rather a trader. Melaka is a great city to visit to see what happens when cultures collide....This city was has had "visitors" from China, Portugal, Holland, and England....and they have all left their influences upon the city. You will learn a lot if you take your time in this museum. See the little movie at the start. Many models to view. A real little gem.
