The Saraswath followers of the dwaitha philosophy of Shree Madvacharya have established their own independent Math, a seat of religion, spiritualism and named it as "SHREE GOKARN PARTAGALI JEEVOTTAM MUTT."
The founder of this Math Shreemad Narayan Teerth Swamiji received the Sanyas Deeksha in the year 1475 A.D., while on the Himalayan pilgrimage, at the hands of Shree Ramachandra Teerth, 10th Swamiji of Phalmar Math, one of the Astha Maths founded by Shree Madvacharya at Udupi. The day was Chaitra Suddha 2, 1397.
Before returning to his homeland, Shreemad Narayan Teerth went on pilgrimage to Varanasi. It was during the first ever pilgrimage that he constructed a Math at Panchaganga Ghat (Varanasi) under unexpected conditions. In Kashi Kshetra in front of Shri Bindu Madhava a place was donated for Shree MAth and thus Shree Math was established. On his return to Bhatkal, Shreemad Narayan Teerth Swamaji established a Math there.
The present Swamiji Shree Vidyadhiraj Teerth ascended a Gurupeeth in the year 1973 A.D. Incidentally, that happend to be foundation day of the Math. Known for his erudition, discipline and devotation, Shree Vidyadhiraj took up the resposibility of reconstructing all ancient Math branchs throughout the country and promoting emotional integration of the community. Under his able guidance, Math celebrated its 525th anniversary in the year 2000 A.D. A shatakoti Ramnam Japa Yajna was organised in which thousands of devotees participated. Present Swamiji is 23rd peetadhipati of this great Math. Under his able guidance lot of community works have done and going on. Naming a few, Sanskrit Vaidik Pathashala, a Museum, a Library, students hostel, old age home, Poornaprajna vasati nilaya for active senior citizens of GSB community.
recently Present Swamiji was honored by the community people on completion of his 70th year.
Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math is having 33 Shaka(Branches) all over the country.
Its worth visiting the great place situated near the banks of Kushavathi River. There is a huge banian tree near the Shree Math. Its worth watching temple, attending pooja, offering to the God Shri Veervittal Ramdev. Thousands of people gather during car festival held during Ram Navami. A huge wooden car is pulled by thousands of devotees. During the founders day prominent persons will be honored by the hands of this great Swamiji
According to a custom followed in the Gokarna Math, after Swamiji passes away, the mortal remains of the departed Swamiji are buried in the earth after suitably embalming the body with preservatives - salt, camphor, heaps of Tulsi leaves etc. - usually in the Math premises or in temples associated with the Math. Subsequently, a memorial structure is constructed over the site. The entire place is known as the Vrindavana or Samadhi of the Swamiji. Arrangements are made for the daily pujas in the Vrindavana and the Punya Tithi (death anniversary) of the Swamiji is duly celebrated with special pujas and prayers and Abhishekam to the Hanuman idol for his blessing to the Matha Samsthan and its followers
Among many pilgrimages Shri Swamiji has undertaken, the most difficult was virtually an expedition to Shri Damodar Kund in the Himalayas about 20,000 feet above the sea level. Some 500 years ago the third Swamiji of the math, Shrimat Jeevottam Tirth Swamiji by whose name the math is called on account of his great many feats, had gone on a pilgrimage and Shrimat Vidyadhiraj is the second one to repeat this in the year 1998 traversing and climbing the snow clad peaks. The followers were deeply impressed by this accomplishment of their beloved guru and so they gave him the title of Abhinav (new) Jeevottam Swamiji! This year Shri Swamiji is undertaking another difficult pilgrimage, from Gangotri, the source of Ganga to Gangasagar where Ganga meets the sea.
A must visit to to this great place and be blessed Please note this is not a resort.

This is one of the leading math providing religious education following Guru-Shishya parampara. The math is very old having rich traditions. But with the passage of time, its importance is getting reduced in modern times. The pujaris are lesser and condition of math is deteriorating. There is ample parking space and ease of reaching.

Nice place. Surrounded by greenery all around. Worth visiting and spending a good 2-3 hours to see the place. Good for meditation as the place is quiet.
