- Cynthia FLouisville, Kentucky3 contributionsStep into the pastSo many amazing artifacts! If you are a military history buff or just curious, it’s well worth a bit of your time. The staff is entirely volunteer and passionate about their mission to educate. We loved the oldest existing Pygmy Jeep!Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 12 October 2023
- Tom P1 contributionGreat MuseumAn excellent and surprising museum. One of the best kept secrets in the country. The outside is a bit underwhelming but once you enter it is amazing. One of the best military museums I’ve ever seen. Great displays of firearms, equipment and accoutrements. I would highly recommend. Entry price was only $5.00 but I would urge anyone to make an extra donation. Personnel were very friendly, helpful and cordial. They had a good knowledge of history and what was on display. Put this on your must see list when you’re in Alabama.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 November 2023
- John VAbu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates46 contributionsGood Thing in a Small PackageSo much to see inside the museum! This place is FULL of US Military history...equipment, vehicles, aircraft, and other things dating back into the last century. Well worth the time to find it amidst the construction of the surrounding John Hunt Park complex.Visited November 2023Travelled on businessWritten 17 November 2023
- Rebelhorse17 contributionsGREAT Military Museum! This is one of the very finest military museums in the country. They operate on donations only and everyone there is a volunteer. Many vehicles run after being restored by the staff. The museum supports veterans events which is how I found out about them. The folks that work there are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I could spend hours there and a half day is not enough time.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 19 November 2023
- Ron H1 contributionIf you are in Huntsville and have any interest in our veterans you really should make time for a visit. One of the most complete and well detailed military collections I’ve ever seen. Staff very knowledgeable and pleasure to talk with. Will go back again to see the expanded museum. All equipment is in excellent restored condition and often vehicles in running condition.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 March 2024
- Kathy LHuntsville, Alabama5 contributionsHidden Gem!This is a hidden gem I have found in the city I've called home for the past 15 years. They have a lot of resources available interested people to help research military related things, especially awesome for genealogists! This museum is run by volunteers that restore wartime elements so future generations can have visual reminders of where we have been as a country. They are going to be expanding their collection and building on an expansion in the coming year or so. So many things to look forward to!Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 21 April 2024
- LMCIndy11Indianapolis, Indiana15 contributionsDefinitely worth the stop in!We stopped in and were surprised by everything they can fit in that building! My boyfriend is big into anything military and history related so he was a kid in a toy store going from one area to the next! He said it’s the best museum with the most comprehensive collection. Definitely a must visit!Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 June 2024
- ca_davies186 contributionsHidden gem museumAMAZING little museum!! Right now, the displays are stuffed in together, but the museum is soon going to triple in size. It is still a fascinating place. There is mostly army artifacts, but the other services are represented, too. We spoke with representatives of the museum and were left to (preferred by us) wander as we pleased. If we had questions, they were happy to answer them. I definitely recommend anyone interested in military history visit this museum if you are in the aresVisited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 June 2024

Such a great exhibit to help an every day Joe appreciate just how “expensive” freedom really is!Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 6 July 2024
- K C1 contributionGreat for the history buffGREAT spot for history buffs. They could easily double the square footage and it would STILL be impressive. Information and exhibits ranged from the Revolutionary War up through modern times. Uniforms, arms and armaments, tanks, helicopters, jeeps, etc.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 6 July 2024

This museum is very well stocked with an impressive collection of the history of our military. I wish I had more time to spend here to read more things and pay closer attention to the items on display. The gentleman offering their free time to educate us on everything in the collection was amazing as well. Thanks for the incredible time we were able to spend here. I highly suggest visiting!!! When you are done you will want to leave more the the $5.00 donation they ask of you to view the vehicles and items on display.

I was impressed with the amount of displays here. The place is so wall to wall with American war they are/have run out of space. Civil war, WW 1 & 2, revolutionary war, war with Mexico, and so many more. You'll miss the place if you aren't looking. There is so much potential here to turn this plot of land into a large museum like the one in New Orleans. The staff is friendly and you can easily spend an hour or two in here learning about our wars.

Very nice collection covering the revolutionary war through the more recent War on Terror era. The building is smaller but extremely densely packed with a great collection including numerous tanks, jeeps and even helicopters! I could see this being a big hit, especially if you have any ww2 movie or video game buffs in the crowd. Also, as someone who loved Battlefield 1, some very familiar weaponry from then is in the collection as well as a really cool diorama depicting trench warfare in ww1 Europe.

Don’t be fooled by the plain exterior of the building. Inside, there’s a treasure trove of military history! If you’re lucky, you’ll have an incredibly knowledgeable young man guide you around the tanks, keeps, helicopters, weapons, uniforms and other military items crossing multiple wars and generations.
Largely the collection of one man, there’s plenty to keep you engaged, including the oldest known Jeep Pygmy from 1940. There’s a nominal fee for entry but consider donating more so they can restore the historical vehicles they’ve amassed. Free parking.

Went here with multigenerational family for Memorial Day. Had a preteen, two seniors, my husband and myself. Best collection of military engagement from all U.S. history including pieces from other countries we interfaced. Tells local connections as well as unique pieces i.e. the Alabama Merci train car from France, 1 of 49 in the U.S. sent with gifts from the people of France to thank U.S. veterans for helping them become free from the Nazis. We’ve lived in many states and have traveled extensively. This is a museum not to miss, especially if primary sources help you connect with the past. True labor of love by the volunteers over the years. LOVE that this is run by volunteers and not the government. True Patriots here. No spins. Come explore things you’d never see in a regular museum. Very interesting.

We left Nashville TN and headed south to explore Alabama. Read so many great reviews of the US Veterans Memorial Museum that we ventured off of I-65S and headed towards Huntsville AL.
So glad we did. Do not miss this amazing experience. The staff was friendly and informative. This displays were overwhelmingly complete from Revolutionary War right up to the Mideast. You will not be disappointed.

100% GO TO THIS MUSEUM!! Plan to spend twice as much time as expected. Phenomenal pieces that are well organized, and absolutely the best military museum I have ever been to. The guys that run the place are passionate about preserving military history, approachable and full of knowledge. Please spread the word so that this museum can get the traffic and funding it deserves!!

This museum has so many artifacts from the Revelotionary War era to the modern-day. The volunteers at the museum were very helpful and clearly have a passion to see the history on display in the museum maintained and shared. My family of 5 with 3 kids under 7 thoroughly enjoyed it!
The museum would very much benefit from a larger, updated space and some money to upgrade the exhibits. They clearly are doing the best with the money they have. I hope the city or some other group will help this museum, as they have plenty of artifacts to be a world-class museum; they just need some money to take the next steps.

The U.S. Veteran's memorial Museum has a variety of interesting exhibits including tanks, armored cars, historical weapons from the Civil War, World War One and World War Two and other more modern wars. They also have on display some weapons systems designed and developed here in Huntsville at Redstone Arsenal. My personal favorites are the Vietnam River Boat, and the M8 Greyhound and the Duster. What impresses me the most is that many of these vehicles have undergone complete restoration and are drive-able . This is preservation of history. They also have a very knowledgeable staff.

About how long does it take to complete the tour?
Written 27 May 2017
really depends on how fast got want to go. We did it in about 1 1/2 hours, but I had a daughter that was in a hurry. I would recommend 2-3 hours to really read and enjoy all of it.
Written 20 July 2017
Yes it is. The aisles between exhibits are wide enough for wheelchairs. I think there was only one exhibit that had stairs as it was in an old rail car.

Are children allowed to climb inside any of the tanks or jeeps?
Written 18 August 2016
I just spoke to the Museum Curator and he said the museum has two "climb-on" displays. The first is a Stewart tank that has stairs built against it so families can get up on the tank. Of course, children should always have adult supervision. Also available is the "Elvis" Jeep. It is a Korean War era Jeep whose bumper number has been traced to Elvis' unit in Germany. Families are permitted to enter, sit in, and move around in this display. All other displays are prohibited for safety reasons but the museum did set up these two displays as "touch" displays because everyone wants to climb around on the equipment.

Are well-behaved, leashed dogs allowed?
Written 9 July 2016
I just spoke to the Museum and they said that, like most businesses, Service Animals are welcome and encouraged; however, local heath codes prohibit non-service animals to be in the Museum.
