- abroadwithashleyMinneapolis, Minnesota1,724 contributionsFor Rocket Lovers EverywhereThis was not originally on our itinerary for Alabama. However, multiple people on our road trip told us that we needed to make this stop. If you are interested in the NASA program at all (or specifically the rockets) this is a must stop. The front desk told us it takes about two hours to go through the museum. We were there nearly four hours and only left because they closed - and that did not include any of the extra experiences that were on offer. To be fair, we are the type to read all of the signs and information (which is excellent), but it is still a longer experience than two hours. Regardless, this is indeed a must stop.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 October 2023
- mrsjcopeRogersville, Tennessee160 contributionsGreat for half-day stopTook my 15 and 10-yr old here for fall break. Purchased our tickets ahead of time online, along with add-on tickets to the flight simulation, VR experience, and movie presentation about the Webb telescope. We all had a really enjoyable day. Wasn’t very crowded and I thought the add-on experiences were moderately priced and well worth the extra. We spent about 5 hours here.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 October 2023
- travelwriter52Clinton, South Carolina3,573 contributionsSo Much To SeeThe only negative for me was the fact that they were working on the outside displays so it didn't look very pretty, but I was able to see everything. It was also a bit annoying to have to go through a hall with a bunch of simulators that you had to pay extra for. I did enjoy the ISS exhibit and lecture and there were a lot of historical displays. The large rocket inside the building was impressive.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 October 2023
- NorCal-traveler08Orangevale, California2,320 contributionsGreat Day Leaning about Space & RocketsThis is an amazing place. Lots to do and see and a lot of reading to take everything in. It was so cool to see a full size Saturn V rocket. To stand below it and see how tall it really is was amazing. They have a moon rock, space shuttle, space rover, international space station, hands on exhibits, simulators, rides. This is where Space Camp is held and you can watch the students prepare for their assigned tasks. There are exhibits inside two buildings as well as outside. Lots of military planes and vehicles to look at. They have a cafe and gift shop and lots of places for pictures.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 13 November 2023
- 2berriesLake George, New York283 contributionsEnjoyed our stop hereGlad we stopped on our way southbound. We purchased general admission. The museum had interesting items including the Mars rover, moon lunar lander and a “space toilet “. Other items were scattered about the inside of the initial building. We attended a short presentation on the space shuttle which was very interesting. The second building included many models and exhibits from the early days of space exploration through more recent times. “Rocket scientists “ were available for questions. The outdoor models of the rockets were impressive, their sheer size is amazing. We have been to the Air and Space museum in DC and Cape Canaveral but enjoyed our visit here and would recommend it.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 November 2023
- Joe371 contributionsAwesome !What can I say but amazing ! Despite it being rainy, my wife and I kept busy seeing all the displays and information about the space program. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we actually met a staff person there who helped design the moon rover. To that I can tell people I met a rocket scientist !Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 January 2024
- Ellesor826Bradenton, Florida1,655 contributionsRenovationsOngoing renovations made our experience less than stellar. We did enjoy the exhibitions we were able to view. But. In all honesty, it was a bit of a letdown. Especially being charged full price for a 3/4 (at best) experience. Kennedy Space Center blows this away based on our visits to both. Sadly.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 March 2024
- Ryan J43 contributionsEngaging for Upper Elem KidsWe spent 4 hours and aren't ones to read every plaque so you definitely need some time to do everything. Very hands on. we did the planetarium show and enjoyed it. We did not do extra simulators as they were veryyyy pricy. I wish maybe one more was included with your ticket. We enjoyed the g force one included. Would go on a nice day as many of the cool things are outside. This review was a family trip with kids 9yr and 11yr.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 24 March 2024
- SanzMiami, Florida95 contributionsFun dayThis place was very interesting and fun. Sadly we went on a rainy day and some of the things were outdoors so wasn’t as enjoyable. It’s pricey since all the simulators are extra. The only one included with admission is the G-force ride. The souvenir ICEE cup ($11) has no free or cheaper refills, which defeats the purpose of buying the cup; we just ended up refilling it with soft drinks all day. We went with a 9 and 10-year old boy.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 March 2024
- CLH79Springville, Alabama234 contributionsRocket City!Nice museum. It only took us a couple of hours to see everything. I think $30/person is a little high for admission. A lot of the items outside need major updating/paint to look better. The Saturn V hall was our favorite part with lots of interesting reading etc. Lots of restrooms. Nice big gift shop also.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 March 2024

Huntsville was our girls trip for a couple days & everyone that we interacted with was talking about this museum. When we finally made it, I was immediately disappointed. We were traveling with my niece who was little enough that she needed to be in a stroller & the museum isn’t very stroller friendly. No ramps or elevators when you needed one. The coolest “exhibits” were outside so if you were traveling on a rainy day you wouldn’t be able to see them. Unless we were missing something completely it didn’t feel like there was a lot to see. For something that’s as talked about so highly I was really disappointment, definitely not worth the $25 admission fee either.

Thank you so much for visiting us, and for your feedback. Your feedback is very important to us, and we will pass it along to our museum management team. We hope you had a chance to make it to the Davidson Center for Space Exploration, which houses the National Historic Landmark Saturn V Moon rocket, and our main space exhibits. The museum had a large assortment of items from the space program. I thought the staff was doing a good job observing people and keeping them in the right areas as many things were closed down due to Covid 19. I wish the interactive exhibits would have been available, or they would have reduced the entrance fee to be more in line with what was actually available. I realize they need to pay staff, but quite a few things were closed off and weren't being diligently cleaned so not costing them any extra. Overall I enjoyed the experience.

If you have kids it might be a great place to take them, as the museum seems to be geared toward kids up to maybe age 12 or 13. My wife and I (mid 50s both) went by ourselves, no kids, and found much of it to be a bit too juvenile for people our age.
In all fairness, there were a few exhibits that were geared toward adults, e.g. the drone exhibits and the military weaponry exhibit, but these seemed to be in the minority, as the museum seemed to be pushing their Space Camp.
Gift shop was likewise heavily geared toward Space Camp and kids in general, and was WAY overpriced.
Definitely not worth the $25 per person admission, plus additional $10 each for the extra activities (Apollo 11 VR, Summer Skies, etc.). Maybe if the extra attractions were included in the admission.

Tickets are available online or walk-up. There’s some confusion about whether you bypass the line if you bought online -we were directed to wait in the queue but others just walked into the museum. You do get a map at the ticket counter but you can also just meander the main entry building (you enter and leave through the gift shop) and the main attraction of the Saturn V in the Davidson Building. The Pathfinder space shuttle is not on outdoor display since it’s being restored but you can see its metal frame next to the fuel and booster tanks.
Inside the Davison Building, if you’re lucky, a NASA Emeritus engineer docent will tell you about the various aspects of the early space program and point out what to pay attention to as you walk under and around the enormous rocket. Very well done and not too overwhelming. We spent two hours but could have done more. If you’re a crushed penny fan, there are several machines sprinkled throughout.

We only purchased our admission ticket and a planetarium showing online prior to our visit. We did not realize that all other paid activities needed an appointment at the time of purchase. Everything was sold out by lunch time that Saturday!
The planetarium show and presenter was awesome! It was our favorite part. Sit on the top tier towards the middle for the best seats. Popcorn was pretty stale, but pretzel with cheese was good for the concessions.
The G-Force ride was a long wait because they only allow 12 at a time. Don’t ride after you eat lunch! You will surely feel sick
My mother was on a motorized scooter the entire time and didn’t have issues navigating through the exhibits.
Mars Grill is a little overpriced, as expected. Many had cheeseburgers and fries. Salad with chicken was good.
We spent 5 hours there, indoors and outdoors along with lunch.
Plenty of items to purchase from the gift shop! Loved the variety.

Even with a couple things closed, there were a lot of interesting history things to see and learn about for $25. With two very large buildings and the planetarium with 3 different movies being shown (extra charge). We got there just 20min after they opened at 11a and we ended up being there until they closed at 5pm. The staff is very helpful and extremely knowledgeable regarding the history, they even have volunteers there who actually worked on the projects there at the museum!

This was our second time to the museum and it was great. Yes, the main entrance building has more for kids than adults, but you need to make sure you get to the second building. Great collection there with all sorts of artifacts and interesting exhibits and informational videos. It is amazing what we once accomplished when the country worked together. Well worth the visit. Our membership on a museum at home got us in free. Make sure to check if you are a member of your local museum and you may get in free too

The Saturn V rocket room is wonderful. There is the right amount of informative and interactive displays to make this fun for both kids and adults, although adults will want to spend a lot more time in the exhibit. Unfortunately, the rest of the center needs some updating and a coat of paint. Sections feel like the 1950s, in a good way, and other parts feel like the 1980s in a bad way. It does make me wish I went to Space Camp.

Spend $30/person to see a mediocre museum or go on Thursday, spend $25/person and see best part of museum AND have dinner?
This museum was highly disappointing. The shuttle is out for new paint job until December. Many of the attractions were closed due to space camp. The plane was being washed so it was closed. It cost $30 per person to see a fraction of the museum.
The Saturn V hall (where the Thursday Biergarten is) is the most interesting part of the museum. It had great time lines, interactive experiences, moon rocks, rocket pieces and more! This is the museum.
Outside was obsolete rockets and subs and helicopters.
The less fascinating side of museum had many replicas rather than original or actual pieces and parts of rockets. You can see what it is like in the iSS which was cool.
The movie had early show times (last was at 2pm). Many of the simulators were not running but each one coat money so if you had kids, this place would be more expensive than Disney!
As we explored the museum, I felt that if I wasn’t SpaceCamp, they would rather I not be there. I felt like museum was not well maintained. They had quite a few staff (high school/college age kids) who all seemed to be doing homework.
The Saturn V hall was awesome and the docent had mind blowing facts. We were rather disappointed to know we could have seen just that and had German dinner for less than our full museum experience where most was closed or off limits and no food.
Based on this experience, I am not feeling good about the US in Space. Also, based on this experience, I cannot recommend it as a stop unless you do the Thursday Autobahn deal! I gave a 3 instead of 2 only because of Saturn V hall.

My husband and I visited in December. The main building, where you buy tickets, is mostly dedicated to children. It also has a cafe and large gift shop. The bus tour was the highlight of our visit....just fascinating and geared for adults.

I am from the Netherlands and would like to take the NASA Bustour to Redstone Arsenal. Is this possible?
Written 25 November 2022
Currently the bustour is not operating. Because of the quarantine restrictions related to Covid and the astronauts who have pending launches, they are not allowing anyone into the quarantine area. We really wanted to do the bustour as well, however, it is still a great visit to the Space and Rocket Center without the bustour. We highly recommend the Planetarium show.

I'm looking to do Family Space Camp with my boys who will be 12 and 14. Our concern is are they too old to do Family Camp? Would we be paired up with mostly families with younger kids? Or rather, should we opt to send them to the week-long Academy with kids their age group?
Written 1 August 2022
Great question and definitely one to ask the camp. I'm sure they can let you know the ages of children registered when you are looking to go.

We are going to the Space Center next Saturday while staying in Huntsville for the weekend. Does anyone think it necessary to purchase tickets in advance?
Written 20 April 2022
In my opinion for general admission, no. If you want to join one of the specialty add-ons - movie etc… then yes.

We will be passing through on our way to Florida and won’t have time to spend several hours. Is there anything that we would be able to see either from the car or to walk around for a few - we’d rather not pay the admission since we won’t have a lot of time.
Written 5 March 2020
There's not a way to see anything without the entrance fee. You can see some things from the parking lot and the walk up to the museum. The shuttle is mostly visible as well as the Saturn booster. The space habitats are visible but it's far better to get into the place. Recommend doing this on the way back!
