While we didn't see much in the way of animals, we did see some hawks and birds. I think we would have seen more wildlife had we gone early or at dusk. We went in the middle of the afternoon so everything was getting away...More

Started at the visitors center, talked with a great ranger. Drove the loop road and saw very little signs of wildlife. A few vultures, a heron, a snake, a few deer and that's about it. Lots of biting flies. Keep your windows closed.

We spent 2 days exploring the refuge and saw quite a few birds considering that this is not the prime time for birding. I was disappointed that several areas were gated off which prevented us from entering. I recently had surgery to replace a knee...More

If your life is stressful, take a break and experience this refuge. It's pretty soothing. We saw wild boar several times, but sadly no gators. Here's a tip for you if you come up gatorless, like we did: Park in back of the Liberty gas...More

My husband and I were fortunate enough to live a few miles down the road. We took our dogs for a ride through there every day. Saw some of the neatest birds and animals. Wood storks, bald eagles, Bobcats, alligators and wild boar with babies....More

We have been several times, in fact we went this weekend. Nature in all it's glory at the refuge. Good trails for walking-nothing fancy-its just the woods. We had a three year old and a 1 1/2 year old walking and it was fine...hot... but...More

What a delightful surprise to find an auto tour trail through native habitats. We were captivated by the birds, waterfowl (in particular), butterflies, and wildflowers. I wish we had known this was there before we happened upon it. There is a marina store where we...More
