I am not sure why this is a must see when visiting Dauphin Island. Very small, not much to see. Doesn't even have a picnic table.

We visited this park in February. Majestic Trees are beautiful with photo opportunities. But I do believe the main attraction is the migrating birds, which there were none on our visit. Lots of benches & seating, short looping trail. Pets are welcome if leashed.

For anyone who calls himself a birder, this is the place. For others, the history and the wildlife can be fun, too. However, during spring migration (late March through late April), the Shell Mound serves as a meeting place for all interested in seeing birds on their way to northern breeding grounds. Decked out in their spring plumage, these birds... More

This park is built on top of old indian created shell mounds. There are huge old oaks, Spanish moss, and tons of birds! Walking through the trails is peaceful and almost like stepping back in time. You can imagine the indian people gathered in this area harvesting, roasting and enjoying the plentiful oysters in the nearby waters. Even though totally... More

We drove up, looked for a brochure or map and there was nothing. Walked around a little bit and saw a few shells and that was that.

We went to this thinking there was an actual ceremonial ground, we didn't find that be we did get a nice shaded hike in the massive trees draped in Spanish moss

The mounds are interesting and the natural beauty of the landscape invites you to explore and imagine the prehistoric lcommunity that lived here.

Nice little park. We walked through it and were amazed at the old trees. Nice and shady. Well kept. Loved reading about the history. Great educational walk for the kids.

There's not much there but it's s nice short walk. Saw some interesting birds. Also, when we walked to the pond behind the trail we saw a small gator!

This is a lovely park and very quiet. We hiked over the mounds and through the forest. There are benches scattered through the park, inviting you to sit and meditate. It's hard to believe that Native Americans built these mounds more than 11,000 years ago. You can get a sense of tranquility just walking around. CAVEAT: don't go when it's... More
