This is an interesting converted jail offering many small stores with craft and souvenirs. The stores are located I. The cells and therefore very small but they do offe a wide variety of items and there is no pressure sales. Pleasant place to spend an hour.

Not big, all art shops pretty much the same. Some info in english is missing, its a pitty due to the rich history of the prison/art market. Nice building for a quick stroll.

A nice place to visit, a old prison with lots of little shops in the old cells, and it is a great place to buy you're souvenirs, the only thing I did not like was that a lot of shops are selling exactly the same stuff.

amazing setting and incredible lace. The setting is an old prison and the shops are set up inside former prison cells. Very cool architecture. unique.

This craft market "recycles" an old Portuguese prison and is full of little shops -- one in each cell. Most of the places sell the same type of stuff an the vendors can get a bit pushy. But worth the trip just to see the building!!

Good place to visit even if you are not going to buy any presents. The prisons are made into little stores selling different souvenirs.

The concept of this place is quite interesting. As you shop here, you can see the structure of the old prison. The craft shopping here is not nearly as impressive as the area just southeast of the port. The goods here are okay, but the quality doesn't seem to be there. It's a good bit out of the way for... The Casa da Cultura was once a Colonial prison which was in use until 1973. It is now a shopping mall where all the old cells have been converted into little souvenir shops. To be honest, I wasn't in the least bit interested in the shops, but I was fascinated by the architecture of the building which was designed in... More
