Recife Antigo was preparing for Carnival 2024, the buildings were covered for renovations or protected with siding. Couldn't take good photos. The entire area was full of beggars and homeless people, and the strong smell of urine didn't make the walk very pleasant. It's worth a visit to the Crafts Market, which is well maintained and has very cool works.

the place is beautiful. Try to start exploring the place from ground zero, it makes for good photos, nearby there are sculptures, museums and restaurants. then go to Rua do Bom Jesus (old Jewish street) there you will appreciate the architecture (in Praça do Arsenal and Marco Zero there is also a beautiful example of architecture)
Arriving at Arsenal Square, enter Frevo Palace and Malakoff Tower. From there, go to the Cais do Sertão museum, passing by the lion of the master nuca until you reach the Brum fort
Then go back to Praça Tiradentes, Teatro do Apolo, passing by the Chanteclair building, then go to Igreja da Misericação, Paço da Alfândega, close by there is Rua da Moeda, then go back to Marco Zero which has more attractions nearby.

It's worth visiting the old neighborhood and going to Olinda.
The visit to the museums and Mape was very worthwhile, due to the richness of colors and appreciation of local artists.
Negative point: city dirt.

The historical attractions of Recife are reasonably concentrated. We managed to cross them on a walking circuit. Starting from the Carmo Basilica, we pass through the Golden Chapel and the Republic Square, overlooking the theatre and the government palace. Crossing the bridge, we reach the island of Recife, where the well-known Marco Zero and other highlights in regional culture are located.

Ancient Recife offers tourists the possibility to immerse themselves in the history and culture of colonial Brazil, with its Portuguese imprint. Churches, convents, houses, squares mix colorful styles in their cobblestone streets. To walk half a day or a whole day.

Cobbled streets and stunning colonial architecture make this recently-restored area special. Although bustling with life at weekends, particularly late evening, take care because during the week it can be deserted and unsafe. Head here late Sunday afternoons for the huge, busting street market, with crafts, food, music..... and caipirinhas!

All tourists to Recife - Brazil must visit Recife Antigo a day atleast to see the ancient buildings, ancient art, old tree, traditional shops etc. Be careful about your safety - better to take an organised tour to cover most of the attractions in a day safely.

It's a place where that shows the historical part of that city. It's worthwhile to visit it. There are museums, handicraft, arts, bars, restaurants and a beautiful view of the port of Recife and of the sea, including its reefs. Recife Antigo is a island and is near to the centre of the city. You can enjoy it by car, walking and by bikes (there are bike rental at varios point of the city). The Marco Zero is located in Recife Antigo and from there you can visit the neighbor city of Olinda, the capital of the Frevo (a pitoresc folk dance of Pernambuco, Brasil). In February/March, Recife Antigo is crowded because of Carnival, a great experience to every people.

A beautiful historic area that is the setting for the ferinha de Recife Antigo on Sunday nights. We went on a night of precarnaval, and it was one of the best pieces of night life we encountered in Brazil. There was music and culture everywhere; hip hop, break dancing, forró, funk, axé, frevo, and much more! There were carnaval blocos in the streets everywhere. People dancing and singing- everybody was SO happy! The entire area was filled with music and cheap latão of Skol, caipirinhas, and great street food (acarajé and macaxeira YUM!). Such a great night words can't describe it, GO!
