Dec 2019
We did the 1 night-2 day trip in Dec-19. We walked in from the street and were on the minibus within an hour, the departure being delayed until just before 9am because a couple of other punters were late turning up.
Transport to the hotel on the edge of the Sunderbans took about 4 1/2 hours (minibus, ferry, flatback autorickshaw, another boat,) but was interesting and did not drag. On arrival at the eco village, we had a good lunch before spending the afternoon walking round the local village then being paddled around the creeks outside the Park in a rowing boat.
Back to the hotel for a snack, then entertainment (traditional music from a local group of musicians), then supper and finally another boat trip in the night. It was rather hazy, so we did not see the Milky Way, and some rather noisy travellers detracted from the experience a bit.
NB the eco village is not luxurious. The rooms are in separate huts, mostly small and very simple with only a bed and mosquito net, however there is an ensuite bathroom (shower, loo, basin). People with limited mobility may find some of the transport, and getting on and off the boats tricky. The food was delicious and plentiful.
The following day, we went by comfortable motor boat into the Park where we saw a wide range of birds, animals and reptiles - but do not expect to see tigers. The seating is high off the water, so the sightlines are good. We'd strongly recommend bringing binoculars if you have them. There was an excellent cooked lunch on board and we also made two walking excursions on the land along fenced walkways. Our guide MJ was very good and enthusiastic, concentrating throughout the day on spotting wildlife and explaining things to us.
The boat trip finished shortly before dusk and we reversed the transport back to Kolkata, arriving at about 8.30pm. We sat in the front seats of the minibus which, in the traffic and dark raised the Indian driving experience to new levels of 'excitement'.
Overall this was a very good and interesting trip. It was also very good value and we would strongly recommend it, accepting the slightly spartan accommodation. Backpackers eco village also puts a lot of effort to supporting the local community, which is to be welcomed.

We went on the 2 day / 1 night trip and it followed the itinerary shown on their website exactly. We travelled by minibus and ferry to reach the eco village which totally surpassed our expectations - each hut had its own bathroom and the site was wonderful with a dining room, shop and lots of accommodation. The boat trips over the 2 days were great with evening trips on smaller boats and the day trip on day 2 on a larger more comfortable boat. The food provided was plentiful and delicious - amazing considering day 2 was all cooked on the boat! Of course the highlight was the wildlife seen - even without seeing a tiger it was a wonderful 2 days and I would highly recommend.

A wonderful trip it was with tour_de_sunderban.There is so so much more to Sunderbans than just spotting the tiger. The mangroves, the serenity, the wildlife. I enjoyed the night safari. All in the middle of the water in the chilling weather gazing at the sky studded with stars. Also the folk songs and the play depicting the life and struggles of the local people. It was an enriching experience overall. Food was delicious and homely and the people were too good. Also rooms and the place was neat and tidy. They have beautifully put up folk culture through wall paintings and sculptures by local artists. With Tour_de_sunderban, sunderban was not just a trip but memories you would love to take back. The two nights three days package was completely worth the budget and I would recommend this to everyone.

We were a group of 3 friends who visited Sunderbans for 2 days and 1 night booked through Backpackers. The itinerary that was shared was exactly what we did. First day we went to Sundarban eco village from Kolkata, went for boating in the noon, village walk and had some folk skit in the evening. After dinner, we went for night boating which was too good. We witnessed the planktons' light in total darkness which was awesome. Next day throughout we were in cruise boat and roamed around the Sundarban forest completely on water. They served breakfast, lunch, snacks and tea very punctually even in the boat.
We got to see otter, kingfishers, crocodiles, deers, crabs, wild boar and monkeys. Only animal missed to spot was a tiger.
Our tour guide was Ajay who was very good. He was very professional and had lot of patience to answer all queries all the time. He was very polite, caring and guided us very well. He spotted many birds and animals from very far off distance. Both the days, he was with us all the time and responded very well to our needs during our stay throughout with backpackers. He ensured our safety and well being all the time.
Overall our experience was very enthralling and memorable. Very thankful for the entire team for organizing so wonderfully. Will definitely recommend to our contacts who wish to visit Sundarbans.

Bhargavi.

My husband and I did an overnight trip to Sundarbans in February after travelling around in northern India. It was so lovely and relaxing. It was so nice the whole trip was organised for us and there were no hidden costs. All the transport, accommodation and food costs were included. Eco village was very simple but charming and people showing great hospitality. Our guide Manjit was very knowledgable informing us about the local life and showing us local bird life. On the first afternoon we did a nice boat ride within the mangrove forest and then local musicians were performing to us. Next day we took a tour of the park and managed to spot crocodiles, deers, monkeys and lots of amazing birds. The whole trip was very relaxing and comfortable and I would recommend this tour to my friends.

This has been an amazing experience. We spent two magical nights in Sunderbans Eco village where everything looks beautiful, feels very relaxed and inspiring and the local community live and work in harmony with the environment. Going around on boat Safari was a very exciting experience, although we didn't see Tigers we saw incredible and varied wildlife we'd never seen before, including crocodiles, otters, water monitor lizards and the most gorgeous kingfishers.
Sonu, our guide was like a friend, bringing a couple of beers to hang out, very connected with the locals so we could get or experience anything we needed or were curious about. He was able to talk knowledgeably about the local culture, wildlife and landscape (a level of detail you won't get from the official forest guides) He also took us on night safari and night village walk, both with wonderful secret surprises you will only know if you go!
Another highlight of this tour was the baul music concert happening every night at the ecovillage. We were instructed and welcomed to play one of the traditional instruments with the band, the anandolahori.
Although the huts can seem a bit basic they were very comfortable, keep to a good temperature and we slept very well without any bothering mosquitoes!
Don't be put off by the modest description they give of themselves, this is one of the most enjoyable and immersive national park tours you could wish to find.

As we found ourselves stranded in Kolkata airport, we gave a phone call to the office and they were able to organize a pick up for us on the moment. The price that they offered included EVERYTHING, and they immediately notified the extra cost for the extra transportation organized only for us, which was more than reasonable.
Under these conditions they were able to arrange a perfect trip, the guides Sunny and Om provided since the first moment an invaluable sense of safeness and friendliness with their smiles and organization. The eco-village is a marvel: an essential, heartfelt shelter in constant contact with the villages around and the people who live there.
We planned to stay for one night but finally decided to stay 2 nights. Best part of our trip to India, the car and boat trip in the night to reach the eco-village were something magic. I suggest the village tour. One of us has celiac disease, did not have any problem, just let them know.

Our Trip:
My wife and I were visiting Kolkata for the durga puja and thought to extend our trip to accommodate the Sunderban roundtrip as well. We were quite aware that it will be off season and the chances of spotting tiger(s) wasn’t any real. Scrolling the youtube for recommendations we came across this tour in a vlog. We checked out the link, contacted the tour planner and made a group tour reservation for 2D 1N. The tour really turned out to be above our expectations and was very properly executed.
The organizers:
Their website very much lists the itinerary and if we look back everything was timely - from pickup, meals, pitstops to reaching back Kolkata despite the harsh weather conditions. The eco village is a sustainable ecosystem developed to support local economy as well as providing the tourists a glimpse of the indigenous food and the bengali folk music. They made extra efforts so that we could spot a tiger by retracing half of the route we covered in the onward journey.
Sunderbans:
One word - bliss.
Worth mentioning :
1. No extra/hidden charges.
2. Keith our guide, was very friendly and welcoming. Special thanks for interpreting the lyrics of the bengali folk songs for us in English.
3. The food was yummy.

We booked a two-day one night tour package with Tour de Sundarbans at the end of October 2021.
Right from picking us up at Science City, to dropping us back close to our hotel, this trip was amazing.
The journey to the camp included us traveling by a private bus, jeep, ferry, and tuk-tuk to arrive at the remote Ecovillage, a true Tropical paradise nestled in the Sunderban islands.
After a super delicious lunch (the fish was one of the best we've had) we went out for a mud walk on the marshlands.
In the evening we had a cultural program (Songs by the Boul tribe) followed by a lip-smacking dinner. Lunch and dinner during our stay were always authentic Bengali food prepared by local chefs.
Following dinner, we went out for a boat ride, this was the highlight of our entire vacation, a mix of the million stars twinkling above and the bioluminescent plankton in the water below as we lay on the boat decks in pitch darkness made memories that will stay with us forever.
The next day we left early morning for the water safari. We had a forest guide along with us, we visited Sajnhekali and Dobanki watchtowers. At Sajnekhali, we saw the endangered north river Terrapins. We also sought blessings from Bonobibi, the goddess, whose protection is sought by the local hone gatherers and fishermen. During the safari were able to see a Cobra, Water monitor lizards, spotted deers, Red fiddler crabs, many varieties of birds like Kingfishers, Egrets, Sandpipers, swifts, and the Brahmani kite. The Bengal tiger eluded us this time but we will be definitely returning for a longer stay in the future.
I must make a special mention of our amazing guide Keith. He was always available in our service from the day before our trip began. He went above and beyond his duty in ensuring we had a wonderful trip even before we began our Sunderban tour, suggesting places to stay in Kolkata, food to try, and attractions to see as we arrived a few days in advance. We were lucky to have a guide who truly loved the Sunderbans and was excited to share its wonders with the world. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him.

Hi!
My husband and I are planning a trip to Sundarbans with our 2 year old in early May. Can anyone tell us about how hot it got in this time period and any advice on how to tackle the heat/hydration aspects for the 2 day one night tour?
Thanks!

We visited in Nov-Dec. It was pretty cold in the early morning which may be why the boat was not covered on the sides and it became pretty warm during the day. However, there was proper provision of water on the boat. Probably, they may cover up the boat on the sides to prevent getting too hot. Better to ask the operator directly
