Last night I did my second tour with this company, it was the Kali Pujo / Diwali Tour. Last year, I did the Durga Pujo Tour. Both tours were excellent.

I’ve been to Kolkata a number of times, but these tours always provide me with something new. The tour guide is from Kolkata, and so you can see things that many tourists may not have seen. At a number of the stops, we were introduced to locals who discussed what we were seeing. The pace of the tour is really good and there is a lot of variety in the places we see. The tour guide is also very conscious about safety.

The tour was truly beyond expectations. Soham was professional (punctual, knowledgeable, hospitable) and at the same time he made it feel as if you were roaming the streets of Kolkota with a friend (pleasant, historical information relayed in a relatable manner). Highly recommended!

I booked a pandal hopping tour and Soham was exceptional, covering everything I was looking for from pandals to iconic street food to ambassador rides all beautifully woven together. He was also instrumental in the success of my rest of the trip helping set up the itinerary for the rest of the trip. I was impressed enough to book another tour on the Dussehra day.
I have had a lot of walking tour around the world and I can confidently say he is one of the best in the business.

My wife and I did this tour a couple of days into our trip and we had a brilliant time. Prior to coming to India we had enjoyed some wonderful street food in both China and Malaysia, but I will admit we were a little apprehensive about what/where to go in Kolkata, despite the great things we'd heard. There was no need to worry thanks to this tour.

Our guide Soham took us to some fantastic places where we tried some excellent dishes and some very nice sweets. In addition, we were able to get a real feel for both the city itself and its incredible culinary culture. Soham is a lovely guy and is both knowledgable and extremely passionate about his city.

I learned a lot, I walked a lot and I ate a lot. This was one of best experiences I had spending 5 weeks on India and I would highly recommend this tour (and the others operated by Kolkata Capsule) to anyone. There is a good reason that their reviews are excellent.

This tour could show me the real and best face of Kolkata, and the guide was very attentive and careful and demonstrated a lot of knowledge about the history and Indian culture. I strongly recommend this tour.

My wife and I have done many food tours globally. This one was the best. And surprisingly, it was the best by quite a margin. I rarely write reviews but felt compelled to complete one for this experience.

Soham is the owner / operator of the tour company. He’s clearly thought the entire tour through from the travelers perspective start to finish. He provided an ‘Uber to Uber ‘ experience. Meaning he met us as we exited our Uber and saw us off at the end of the excursion. We had trouble getting an Uber at the end of the night because of lack of availability. So he hailed a cab, negotiated a good rate and saw us off.

Finding the meeting site couldn’t have been easier. Inputting Calcutta Capsule into both google maps as well as Uber put us right where we needed to be. The doorway of the meeting spot has a large hand painted ‘Calcutta Capsule Tour’ mural to let you know you’ve arrived at the correct location.

The tour itself was excellent. Well designed. Stops were delish and threaded into an overall narrative conceived by Soham. Includes anecdotes from his life growing up in the neighborhood and some that are historically and culturally relevant. All weave into the overall story of the food stalls.

A particularly nice touch is Soham took pictures of us (with our permission) with a DSLR camera and sent them to us shortly after the tour. They were great.

There were a total of 8 or so stalls. They were well curated and all delicious. Standouts for us were the mutton with tamarind sauce for me and my wife’s favorite was a fried onion dish. Of note, there are quite a few stalls and portion sizes were not particularly modest considering the number of stops . My wife and I split single portions between the two of us instead of taking the full portion offered at each vendor. We both ended up quite full. If we had eaten full potions, we would’ve been probably uncomfortably full by the fourth or so stall. You can do this and get more at any time if you wish.

Overall, by far the best food tour experience we’ve had over decades of pretty extensive travel. Soham couldn’t have been a better host and his passion , meticulous nature and generosity of spirit really take this tour over the top.

Soham, I wish you the absolute best for this business and anything else for which you may endeavor. Best of luck and I hope our paths cross again sometime

This was such a good tour, especially if you’re coming from a western country. Do this tour early in your trip, so you can get a feel for where to get good street food. Soham also covered a range of cultural topics and took us to some places that there is no way a tourist would normally see.

Thanks Soham

My wife and I very much enjoyed this tour. It was fascinating to see the city come to life and to learn so much about everything going on. Soham is a brilliant guide, he's knowledgable and extremely passionate about what he does, but most importantly is a really cool guy just to hang out with.

There were so many highlights from this tour and I took some excellent photographs. I particularly enjoyed walking through the flower market and across the Howrah Bridge, as well as being able to see the workshops where religious statues are made close to the ganga river. The breakfast in a local restaurant was also lovely and I became a real chai tea convert after this too.

Kolkata is a very bustling city and I think could be quite intimidating for some travellers (certainly at first).I would highly recommend doing some tours with Soham if spending some time here, they were definitely amongst the highlights of the 5 weeks we spent in India.
