We were a family of 2 seniors, 2 young children and me, their mom. We took a 2 night 1 day trip to Sundarban from India Deacons. For this they charged us Rs. 63,000 (Rs. 14.000 per person including for my 9 year old and Rs. 7000 for my 5 year old). The price was conveyed to us upfront and we were OK with it considering we had requested a luxurious experience. Here are the good things: 1. The food on the boat was excellent. Fresh, hygienic and tasty. I will give them 5/5 for food. 2. The boat crew was very courteous and helpful. The guide provided was a humble man who spoke self taught English. 3. The hotel booked for us was Sonar Bangla and had an awesome infrastructure. It was Taj like quality. The service was not up to the par but that is a hotel issue. Here are the negative things: 1. The boat itself was terrible. Toilets were broken and stained. The cover of the boat was tarp like and had holes. Similar boats passing by had corrugated metal roofs. 2. The trip to and from the forest on the second day was shorter than I had expected. The whole point of going for an overnight trip as opposed to a day trip which is what we were originally considering was to cover more ground. 3. The boat broke down twice on our return trip. One time the boat stood still on the river in the middle of nowhere for 30 mins. The second time it broke down closer to where we were supposed to off board. Therefore, they just docked at an unprepared ghat in a hurry. The ghat was full of mud and had slopes that led to the road. They made a make shift “path” out of bricks to guide us through that treacherous path. I was really worried about my parents who are 70+. Only good thing was ample man power was provided to physically guide us to the path but honestly who wants to hold strangers hands tightly so they can make it across? Here is my main question - what was all the money we paid used for? As I said, we paid Rs. 14000 pp. The hotel cost could not have been more than Rs. 8000 per room so Rs. 4000 pp. What was the remaining Rs. 10000 for? Food, boat fuel, car fuel from our pick up point and associated labor cannot cost Rs. 45000? At the least after that terrible experience they should have had the courtesy to refund money partially. Bottom line - avoid or don’t pay as much!

It was a 3 days trip to Sunderbans. It's a must go once trip. Food was cooked and provided on boat itself. Taste and quality of both veg and non veg items was excellent. The boat owner himself accompanied us. Every arrangement was done by India Beacons Sojourns. Just get onboard, relax and enjoy. Ans yeah don't forget the sunglasses and a cap like I did😵

We had worries about Tour Operators at the back of our mind, since we were not accustomed to it. But right from the beginning, IBS proved our worries wrong. Adversities of high and low tides in Sundarbon water area aside, we never felt unattended for a moment. Special mention has to be made for Utpal, who shouldered most of the responsibilities to ensure the least troubles for us. One suggestion and one little bit complaint though. Suggestion: Please render a little bit of Autonomy to Utpal on certain issues based on pre-discussed areas. Small complaint: Guests should not be left unattended on Gadkhali jetty at the end not adhering to the troubles faced by the elderly guests to manage their heavy luggages, which again little lack of management on part of Utpal. But all in all, it's a happy memory altogether. S.Chakraborty & family, Birati, Kolkata.

The various spotting of animals (crocodiles, wild boar, deer, dolphin etc.) & birds (Brahmini Kite, Peregrine Falcon etc.) from far away... Knowing about them and their behavior. Our guide and Mr. Sundeep who accompanied us had mesmerizing instances and anecdotes to share. We enjoyed the excellent food (different delicacies of fishes & crabs, other veg curries, accompanied with mango & pineapple chutney in the end and lovely sweets/ sweet dishes).
