Whilst it's not particularly large, this has to be one of the most illuminating and loving museums I have visited. The displays are beautifully crafted, and the adoration and respect of the current Dalai Lama is clearly evident. We felt enriched and were very happy to have visited.

Museum delves deep into the evolution and existence of Tibet and the present status. Curated for everyone to have a look at Tibetan art and culture, the museum offers a significant lot. Located very close to the mall, it is a hidden gem. Highly recommended !

Little known to tourists, tucked away on a quite road is this fascinating place for the history buffs. Offers wonderful insights into the history, culture and society of an endangered civilisation.

Today 15th November,18, our last day in Darjeeling. Tomorrow we will go to Sitton, the so called orange village near Darjeeling. we were walking on way to Mall along Gandhi Road from our GH near St. Pals School. I came across a signboard , "Welcome to Himalayan Tibet Museum".. It is on 12, Gandhi Road , Darjeeling. We decided to pay a visit to the museum & paid entry fee of Rs.50/ per person. It was written on the ticket that the collected amount would be spent for the maintenance & upkeep of the museum. Any way we observed oil painting of Lord Buddha, Avalokitesrava ( Buddha of Compassion), model of Potala House in Tibet. Tibetan old currency, coins, books, Photo of Manas sarovar & so on .
Various musical instruments were also on show. You can spend one hour there & observe the old artefacts there.
They are also selling some mementos for taking home. We bought two packets of incense sticks.

We were lucky to have a special opening as it's normally closed on Wed (organised by owner of Dekeling Hotel). The man in charge provided lots of history

In the center of Darjeeling, at 12 Gandhi Road, you will find a real 'Tibet/Himalaya treasure' created in a very nice museum. All kind of special collections are presented, with good explanations, both in Tibetan and English. Also very nice scale models of the Himalaya range, explanations about Tibetan medicine, remarkable stories, beautiful pieces of arts and a very complete photo gallery of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. In this center it's also possible to follow several courses/classes in Tibetan language. In 1 hour you will know so much more about all kind of facts of Tibet, absolutely worth for a visit!

The Budhist religion is one f the most interesting of religions. This museum houses the history and beautiful work of the Budhist people. They also hae a small traing centre for Budhist children. The art made from sand is fascinating.

A hidden gem of Darjeeling. Want to know about Tibet? Their origin and culture? Do visit this place. The lone staff lady is so sweet and polite. Some souvenirs are also available inside for purchase.

Very impressive place. It’s not only a museum but First a center of tibetan refugees, a place were people live , work and pray continuing their traditions. The spirituality of Tibet is alive here. Refugees are the ones who refused to kneel in front of Chinese totalianiarism. This hope of freedom couldn’t be destroyed. They reinvented themselves in a new country. Museum with pics display it’s impressive, also the handicrafts store. But most of all people who work here: the carpets weavers ... I bought from store: cooper bracelets hand made, a textile waved for women traditional costume, painted mandalas on recicled paper, incense used in Tibetan temples. Here I found out a particular translation of mantra: om mani padme hum.... It’s not a museum it’s a way of living.

A relatively short and concise intro to Tibet: its people, culture, religion, landscape, fauna etc. Very interesting and beautifully curated. Opened in late 2015 (so we were told), this museum is not in the 2015 lonely planet. Admission is 30 Rs per person as of today.
